I was thinking the exact same thing about "the Village Board sprung for..." mention. I'll chalk it up to a poorly chosen phrase, but that's a bit of a slap in the face to the tax payers who are actually doing the paying.

ReplyThe VW story did happen, but I don't believe it had anything to do with Shorewood or the Glory Cup rivalry. I'm 99.9% certain that was a senior prank perpetrated by Bay students and it was late 60s/early 70s.

ReplyCongratulations on giving in to a vocal minority and coming up with the most innocuous and uninspired logo of all time. Great job fixing a problem that didn't exist - you should all be proud.
Prediction for next year for Messwood is a helmet with no insignia whatsoever because they have to play the lowest common denominator game with the hopes of offending no one.

ReplySo the oh-so-tolerant village of Shorewood progressives shows its true colors once again. First, you overwhelmingly vote for Sandy Paasch and now you think Messmer is good enough to help you continue to have a football team, but not if they're going to let everyone know they're a Catholic school. Unreal. So much for all those "Coexist" bumper stickers littering the village.
Here's an idea: lose the cross and since Shorewood's Greyhound is on the helmet, replace the cross with the word "Bishops". Is that still offensive? How about Jerome Listecki's picture? No? Well what symbol will these people be okay with? How can Messmer maintain its identity? It's not JUST Shorewood's team it's joint project between the schools.

On the article Mixing Business With Politics: How Do Customers React?

Reply@CowDung It's a perfectly legitimate question since I don't think thing race, religion and politics are as different as you seem to me believe. Each can be just as polarizing or just as benign depending upon how tolerant you choose to be.
I happen to lean right on my politics, but I don't hate, disdain or wish ill-will on everyone whose opinion differs from mine. Likewise, I'm not so tepid in my beliefs that I feel threatened knowing what someone else's beliefs are or that they may be supporting someone I disagree with. If you choose to not patronize a business based on its political support, that's certainly your prerogative. I just disagree and find it to be a bigoted decision.
I thought the failed union boycott of Kwik Trip, et al because they supported Gov Walker was stupid and would feel the same about boycotting any local business that had the audacity to support either Obama or Romney.

ReplyTo the folks who won't patronize a business based on the owner’s political beliefs/support, do you also avoid businesses that are owned by different ethnicities than you, or whose ownership holds differing religious beliefs?
That just seems very closed-minded and bigoted.

It's as easy for them to ignore your experts as it for you to ignore the research they can produce backing up their position.
You have differing opinions. You won't believe their research, they won't believe yours. Stalemate ensues.
Have you not heard of the great global warming debate with supposedly reputable experts on both sides of the table spewing contradictory positions?

Perhaps for different reasons, but I do agree with you on this statement. I think the results show pretty clearly that Shorewood is not nearly as progressive in its thinking as it would like to think it is. Only my opinion, but 96% going to the white candidate is tough to ignore.

ReplyThat's great news! Think how impressed festival goers will be with the multiple options for haircuts or to buy a rug on Silver Spring.

I think "several students at the Whitefish Bay Middle School" certainly gives the impression that they are kids attending school there. Particularly when supported by "appropriate student disciplinary action is occurring."
