The Whitefish Bay Public Education Foundation's Ed Nuss Grant program will provide the school district with document cameras, ukuleles and a scale that measures body fat.
Tight budgets prevent school officials from fulfilling all of the purchasing requests that come across their desks, but in Whitefish Bay, a good number of teachers' requests are able to be fulfilled through the Ed Nuss Grant program. The grants are awarded twice each year by the Whitefish Bay Public Education Foundation, which receives community contributions through The Bay Ball, Run the Bay and general donations. The grants—which usually total more than $10,000—are based on innovative requests that come directly from Whitefish Bay teachers. The Education Foundation recently granted $17,605 in Ed Nuss grants, which is nearly a third of the $60,527 requested by teachers. The recent round of grant allocations went for these materials: In …

More than 600 people came out to Whitefish Bay High School Saturday morning for the sixth annual Run the Bay, a 5k run/walk organized by the Whitefish Bay Public Education Foundation to raise money for the schools. In addition to the Bay Ball proceeds, the Whitefish Bay Education Foundation has also allocated $36,000 in grants for innovative classroom tools.
On Wednesday night, the Whitefish Bay Public Education Foundation awarded the school district with $20,000 in proceeds from the Bay Ball fundraising event held in November. The Bay Ball, which was held at the Discovery Center this year, is the major fundraiser for the Whitefish Bay Public Education Foundation. Since the first Bay Ball held in 1996, the event has raised more than $1.2 million. The foundation had hoped to raise $75,000 this year. The Bay Ball raised $21,000 this year for the district's 21st Century Teaching and Learning Initiative to put new technology in classrooms. In the past, the money has been divided evenly among the four public schools and the education foundation, but because of the low fundraising this year, the …

Artwork from students in junior kindergarten through high school will be sold at an auction at the Bay Ball on Nov. 19.
You never know. This could be your chance to own a work of art by a budding Picasso. Once again, young students in Whitefish Bay are using their talents to help raise money for their schools. Since Friday, the artwork has been displayed in the main window of Winkie’s at the corner of Silver Spring and Marlborough Avenue. All of the artwork — numerous pieces created by children in grades K4 through high school — will be sold at auction at the Bay Ball. The event will be held Nov. 19 at Discovery World. It has raised more than $1 million for the Whitefish Bay Public Education Foundation since its inception. The sampling of work at Winkie’s covers a wide range of media. Some of it is inspired by the greats—a vase of flowers reminiscent of …

Roughly 450 people came out for the 5k run/walk event on May 21.
Run the Bay was not only a family-friendly event that brought the community together, but it also brought in nearly $10,000 in new technology funding for Whitefish Bay schools. Event co-chair Jill Patty said the 5k run/walk event on May 21 attracted 450 registered participants and nearly $10,000 in proceeds, nearly double the $5,000 in proceeds that were brought in at the last fun run event in 2009. "It was a good day all around, and the weather held out for us," Patty said. "The childrens run went really well, and they got little medals." All proceeds from the 5k run/walk event go directly to Whitefish Bay Public Education Foundation, which distributes the money to the four public schools in the Whitefish Bay School District for the …
