A group of pranksters blocked village streets with items from neighboring lawns late Saturday night. At 2:45 a.m. Sunday, a Whitefish Bay police officer removed two planters and a full-size soccer goal obstructing the 5400 block of Diversey Boulevard. One block away, in the 5300 block of Diversey Boulevard, an officer removed additional barricades and brush, according to Whitefish Bay police logs. About an hour later, the officer found a patio table, chairs and umbrella in the middle of the 800 block of Sylvan Avenue. A drunk driver could face state charges for allegedly driving drunk down Hampton Road last week with a cup full of booze and Adderall in her purse. The female driver was arrested at 2:41 a.m. May 7 after a Whitefish Bay police officer noticed her vehicle swerving all over Hampton Road near Marlborough Drive. The vehicle also had a broken tail light covered with tape, according to a police report. Police say the driver was on her cell phone, and did not put the phone away when the officer approached the vehicle. In a search of the vehicle, officers found three Adderall pills in her purse. About $5,000 in property was stolen from a home in the 4900 block of Oakland Avenue at 10:58 a.m. May 7.
A man living in the 4900 block of Oakland Avenue was taking a shower on a Tuesday morning when he heard strangers in his house. At 10:58 a.m. on May 7, he heard what sounded like a 19-year-old man yell "Let's get the (expletive) out of here!" Then he heard them run down the front stairs and out of the house, slamming the front door behind them, according to the police report. They stole $5,000 worth of property, including a laptop computer and expensive golf clubs from the unlocked entryway of the house. They also stole two bicycles that had been cabled together outside of the house. An intoxicated Whitefish Bay man was slapped with seven municipal citations after he allegedly sped through a red light, ran away from the cops and threw a tantrum at the police station. At about 5 p.m. on April 21, a Whitefish Bay officer parked outside Whitefish Bay Middle School saw the man's car blow past him at about 50 mph, going right through the stop sign at Kimbark Place and then through a red light at Marlborough Drive and Henry Clay Drive. Both cars and pedestrians were present at the intersection, according to a police report. A man suspected of stealing liquor from CVS Pharmacy is now facing criminal charges, due to three prior retail theft offenses in the last five years. A CVS employee reported the theft to Whitefish Bay police at 6:16 p.m. April 22 after seeing the man – later identified as Bobby Wilson, 49, of Glendale – place two liquor bottles down his shirt and walk out of the store. The liquor was valued at $41.98, according to a criminal complaint. Whitefish Bay police caught the man, but his two female friends got away. One of the females came in to the police station to claim her vehicle the next day – at which point she was cited for retail theft, according to a Whitefish Bay police report. More volunteers are sought for the auxiliary, which helps police manage Whitefish Bay's various events.
Whitefish Bay is well-known for its great community events, but one of the lesser-talked-about stories behind their success is the Whitefish Bay auxiliary police. This group of volunteer police officers has been assisting the Whitefish Bay Police Department for nearly 50 years. Originally formed to provide an extra set of eyes during a period of civil disturbance, the auxiliary now helps with directing traffic and offering assistance at special events, including the Fourth of July, Sounds of Summer, Holiday Stroll, International Cycling Classic and Run the Bay.
