Girls Golf Team Wins Academic Achievement Award

The Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin recognized the Whitefish Bay girls golf team for earning the highest cumulative grade point average among all of the Division 1 golf teams in the state.

The Whitefish Bay girls golf team has the highest cumulative grade point average among all of the Division 1 golf teams in the state. The Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin recently announced Whitefish Bay received the association's second annual Team Academic All-State award, which recognizes the teams with the highest GPA. Teams are defined as the five designated golfers for the WIAA regional tournament series. Whitefish Bay's top five golfers boast a cumulative GPA of 3.888, edging out second-place Sheboygan North/South High School and third-place Union Grove High School in the Division 1 category. The Whitefish Bay sports boosters are leading the way with an app that will allow fans to share photos, read sports news and find information for upcoming events.

Listen up, Duke diehards. There's now a way to stay connected with Whitefish Bay sports no matter where you are with a new Duke Pride mobile app. Lora Brewster, the social media and public relations chair for Duke Pride athletic boosters, has noticed many of her real estate customers conduct their transactions through apps and text messages. She hopes the Duke Pride app will similarly bring Duke Pride spirit to more students and alumni, resulting in more fundraising dollars and stronger community spirit.  "With everything going mobile and businesses going mobile, it only makes sense to bring Duke Pride fundraising and Duke Pride spirit into the mobile world," she said. Bay Tops Conference Track Championships

Whitefish Bay girls won the indoor championships, while the boys team took second place.

Whitefish Bay had a strong showing at the North Shore Conference Indoor Championship meets this week. The girls won their championship meet at Homestead on Tuesday, and on Wednesday, the boys team took second to Homestead in the Whitefish Bay Field House. Duke Pride Roundup: Bay Boys Win Wangerin Track Invitational

Also, the girls track team took fourth in the Lois Wolf Invitational the week before Spring Break.

Athletic Hall of Famers Awarded at Ceremony

John Stone, Morgan Byers, Glenn “Buzz” Wilson, Lois Wolf, Todd Wienke and Bob Albrightson were awarded in the second inaugural Athletic Hall of Fame awards ceremony.

Six Whitefish Bay alumni were honored for their athletic accomplishments at Whitefish Bay High School Saturday. Whitefish Bay High School started its Athletic Hall of Fame last year. This year's hall of fame class includes John Stone, Morgan Byers, Glenn “Buzz” Wilson, Lois Wolf, Todd Wienke and Bob Albrightson. Here is a brief introduction to this year's inductees: John Stone (Athlete, Class of 1959) John starred in basketball, baseball and track while a Blue Duke. In the 1958-59 basketball season, John was named 1st team all-state, averaged 35.5 points per game, including a 53 point game, and led the team to a 23-1 record and a number 2 ranking in the state. John was captain of the 1963 Marquette University basketball team, coached the …

Whitefish Bay Athletic Alumni Will Be Honored Saturday

The second inaugural Athletic Hall of Fame class includes John Stone, Morgan Byers, Glenn “Buzz” Wilson, Lois Wolf, Todd Weinke and Bob Albrightson.

For the second year in a row, the Whitefish Bay School District will honor athletes, coaches and others that have contributed to the school's strong athletic tradition. Whitefish Bay started its Athletic Hall of Fame last year with a ceremony honoring the Milwaukee Brewers' Craig Counsell, financial contributor Sheldon Lubar and Pettit National Ice Center director Randy Dean.   This year's hall of fame class includes John Stone, Morgan Byers, Glenn “Buzz” Wilson, Lois Wolf, Todd Weinke and Bob Albrightson. The induction ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on March 23 in the Whitefish Bay High School Link, located between the main high school building and the field house. Nate Gomoll Will Run With Marquette Next Year

The Whitefish Bay senior committed to run cross country and track with the Golden Eagles next school year.

Hard work and dedication has paid off for Whitefish Bay senior Nate Gomoll, who signed a letter of intent on Friday to run cross country and track with the Marquette Golden Eagles after graduation. Gomoll, who is on the high honor roll at Bay, received academic and athletic scholarships to study engineering and run cross country and track at Marquette. "I took five visits to five different schools, and it really came down to the fact that I really fit in with the guys on the team," he said. "The coach is young, and he knows what he's doing. I felt like it was the right place to be." Whitefish Bay cross country coach Mike Miller said Gomoll's hard work has led him to make steady improvement year after year. Whitefish Bay Girls Fall Short in Sectionals

The Blue Dukes lost 46-30 to Pius XI in a sectional semifinal matchup Thursday night.

It was a strong run for the Whitefish Bay girls basketball team, but their season ended Thursday night. The Lady Dukes (16-9) came up short against Pius XI (22-3) in a WIAA Division 2 sectional semifinal matchup at Waukesha North High School. Maya Jones led the Blue Dukes' scoring with 18 points.  Pius XI will advance to play New Berlin Eisenhower (23-2) in a sectional finals game on Saturday afternoon. Last year, the Blue Dukes made it to sectional finals, where they lost to an undefeated Eisenhower team. In 2011, the Blue Dukes beat Eisenhower in the sectional championship game but lost to Luxemburg-Casco in the state semi-finals.

Blue Dukes, Dominican Girls Advance to Sectionals

The Blue Dukes will play Pius XI on Thursday, and Dominican will play the Prairie School on Wednesday night.

Both the Whitefish Bay and Dominican girls basketball teams are headed to sectionals this week. The Whitefish Bay Blue Dukes (16-8) beat Wauwatosa West (10-14) in a 27-21 regional semifinal on Friday. The following night, the Bay girls beat Wisconsin Lutheran (20-4) with a score of 53-30 in a regional finals game to advance to sectionals. The Lady Blue Dukes are now preparing to play Pius XI (21-3) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Waukesha North High School. If they beat Pius, the Bay girls will advance to the sectional finals on Saturday. Dominican, meanwhile, beat Kenosha St. Joseph (8-15) with a score of 51-39 on Friday. On Saturday, the Lady Knights (17-7) beat Shoreland Lutheran (16-8) with a score of 62-49.
