The business district will be one of the voices heard at the July 30 public hearing. After the meeting, village officials will discuss rezoning the property and creating a tax incremental finance district.

The public will soon have an opportunity to voice their opinions about the Mandel Group's proposed luxury apartment development. The public hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. on July 30 before the Village Board and the Community Development Authority. After the public hearing, a joint review board made up of Plan Commissioners and Architectural Review Commissioners will discuss the details of creating a tax incremental finance district at a meeting at 5 p.m. on Aug 6. @Absolutelyfabulous Mandel has not purchased the forclosed lot they "have it under contract". The contract most likely states that they will only close on that land if they are approved to do this project by the Whitefish Bay Village Board. The devil is always in the details and words do matter.   more ›

Frozen Yogurt Business Receives Village Approval

The Plan Commission granted permission to CherryBerry to move into the space between Dunkin' Donuts and ATI Physical Therapy on the west end of Silver Spring Drive.

Now that it has village approval, CherryBerry frozen yogurt has the go-ahead to open one of its first Wisconsin locations in Whitefish Bay. CherryBerry received its conditional use permit from the Whitefish Bay Plan Commission Tuesday night, giving it permission to do business in the 1,615-square-foot space between Dunkin' Donuts and the incoming ATI Physical Therapy. CherryBerry is a self-serve frozen yogurt restaurant, which means customers walk in the door, grab a cup to fill with frozen yogurt, then add their own toppings from the topping bar, according to the company website. After filling their cups, customers weigh their yogurt on a scale and pay for it by the ounce. CherryBerry was formed in May 2010 and has 70 stores nationwide, …

Plan Commission Supports Extended Hours for JCC

The Plan Commission agreed to eight changes to the organization's development agreement and recommended the Village Board approve the JCC's request at its May 5 meeting.

Extended hours for the Jewish Community Center were approved Tuesday by the Plan Commission, leaving only the Village Board to bless the request. The expanded hours would be as follows: The Milwaukee Jewish Federation asked the village to amend the JCC’s development agreement to allow the extended hours. Also part of the request supported by the Plan Commission on Tuesday: Some neighboring residents on Devon Street and Bay Ridge Avenue have voiced concerns about increased night traffic, so Commissioner Mark Huber suggested an amendment to the petition requesting the JCC be flexible to re-route traffic to meet neighbors' concerns. Huber said the JCC seems receptive to those changes, as they have worked to meet residents' concerns so far. "I…

Many homes in the Bay are very close to businesses, clubhouses, churches, or schools. All of these are in residential neighborhoods, and none of them work harder to accommodate their neighbors than the JCC. None of these other organizations ever have public hearings, community mailings, professional surveys, traffic monitoring (at their expense), etc, etc when they go about their business. Residents Split on Proposed Changes to JCC

With proposed increases to hours and traffic, some residents voiced opposition at a public hearing Monday, while others supported the JCC.

Residents were divided Monday night as they delivered passionate cases to village officials at a packed public hearing about proposed modifications to the Jewish Community Center. Representatives with the JCC called the changes “minor,” but some neighbors were concerned about potential increases in traffic and noise, and one group hired a lawyer to represent them at the joint Village Board-Plan Commision public hearing. Resident Scott Wirig said he worried the changes could be a harbinger of expanding use of the JCC as a regional center, bringing more traffic to the neighborhood. When Seth Meyers spoke at the JCC Jan. 21, Wirig said one car parked on his lawn when street parking filled up. “That’s not a common occurrence, but as you start …

Amazing Moments would provide planning, photography, decorations and more for special events. The village is checking into zoning questions, however.

A Milwaukee event planning firm has eyed a new location inside the Whitefish Bay Women’s Club, but the business cannot move in until the village attorney clarifies the zoning of the property. Amazing Moments is located in an office at 80th and Capitol Drive, and owner Tyesha James said she is looking for a larger space in a neighborhood that has other wedding-related businesses. James signed a one-year lease with the women’s club on Aug. 22 to occupy the 565-square-foot space at 600A E. Henry Clay Drive, the former home of the local American Legion post. Parking Concerns Spike Stein's Garden's 'Just Plants' Proposal

Commissioners sided with business owners who feared loss of customers due to placement of temporary outdoor store.

Stein's Garden and Gifts' plans for an outdoor garden center in a municipal lot were rejected by the Whitefish Bay Plan Commission Tuesday night. The commission voted 5-1 to deny Stein's proposal to erect a temporary garden center, called "Stein's Just Plants," in the back of the parking lot behind Associated Bank from April 30 through July 6 in 2012. Only chairperson Julie Siegel supported the company's request. Several commissioners said their vote was swayed against Stein's after hearing concerns from Silver Spring retailers about the loss in parking spaces. Bill Kregel of Fitzgerald's Pharmacy said he still has a sour taste in his mouth after the road construction in 2009, but he said he was happy with the results. He said the lot …
