Whitefish Bay Girls Fall Short in Sectionals

The Blue Dukes lost 46-30 to Pius XI in a sectional semifinal matchup Thursday night.

It was a strong run for the Whitefish Bay girls basketball team, but their season ended Thursday night. The Lady Dukes (16-9) came up short against Pius XI (22-3) in a WIAA Division 2 sectional semifinal matchup at Waukesha North High School. Maya Jones led the Blue Dukes' scoring with 18 points.  Pius XI will advance to play New Berlin Eisenhower (23-2) in a sectional finals game on Saturday afternoon. Last year, the Blue Dukes made it to sectional finals, where they lost to an undefeated Eisenhower team. In 2011, the Blue Dukes beat Eisenhower in the sectional championship game but lost to Luxemburg-Casco in the state semi-finals.

Blue Dukes, Dominican Girls Advance to Sectionals

The Blue Dukes will play Pius XI on Thursday, and Dominican will play the Prairie School on Wednesday night.

Both the Whitefish Bay and Dominican girls basketball teams are headed to sectionals this week. The Whitefish Bay Blue Dukes (16-8) beat Wauwatosa West (10-14) in a 27-21 regional semifinal on Friday. The following night, the Bay girls beat Wisconsin Lutheran (20-4) with a score of 53-30 in a regional finals game to advance to sectionals. The Lady Blue Dukes are now preparing to play Pius XI (21-3) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Waukesha North High School. If they beat Pius, the Bay girls will advance to the sectional finals on Saturday. Dominican, meanwhile, beat Kenosha St. Joseph (8-15) with a score of 51-39 on Friday. On Saturday, the Lady Knights (17-7) beat Shoreland Lutheran (16-8) with a score of 62-49. Blue Dukes' Season Ends With Loss to Eisenhower

Whitefish Bay girls will not return to the state basketball tournament this year after a loss in Saturday's sectional championship game.

After taking an early lead in Saturday's sectional championship game, the Whitefish Bay girls basketball team fell to New Berlin Eisenhower to end the girls' season. The Blue Dukes, which finished the season 21-5, lost 48-23 to an undefeated New Berlin Eisenhower team, which will now go on to compete in the Division 2 state tournament. The Blue Dukes started out strong with a 10-0 lead, and then a 15-7 lead toward the end of the first quarter, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The Lions then fought back with a 22-point run that Whitefish Bay could not recover from. The Lions' strong defense held the Blue Dukes offense down with 22 turnovers overall and 22 percent shooting. Photos: Blue Dukes Girls Headed to Sectional Finals

With a win over Wauwatosa West Thursday night, the only thing that stands between the Blue Dukes and a trip to the state tournament is a sectional finals game against New Berlin Eisenhower on Saturday.

The Whitefish Bay girls basketball team looked strong in its win over Wauwatosa West Thursday night, and now the Blue Dukes are just one win away from the state tournament. The Blue Dukes came out strong right out of the gate with a score of 20-6 after the first quarter. The scoring was a little more balanced through the remaining three quarters, leaving the Blue Dukes with a 54-37 win to advance to the final round of sectionals Saturday. Maya Jones led scoring for the Blue Dukes with 15 points. Elisabeth Johnston, Lindsey Agnew and Ava Stock scored 12 points a piece.  Now, the Dukes tip off against New Berlin Eisenhower (25-0) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Waukesha South. Photos: Girls Basketball Battle in the Bay

Division 3 Dominican Knights take down Division 2 Whitefish Bay Blue Dukes in an intense inter-village basketball game Tuesday night.

Whitefish Bay's two girls high school basketball teams are both on track for winning seasons, and Tuesday night, the squads duked it out on the floor of Dominican High School's Gymnasiums. The Dominican Lady Knights (18-1) maintained its early lead through the end of the non-conference game to win 51-41 over the Blue Dukes, which went into the match ranked eighth in Division 2. The Knights were ranked second in Division 3. Elisabeth Johnston and Maya Jones led scoring for the Blue Dukes, with 13 points and 11 points respectively. The Knights were led in scoring by Dilonna Johnson (18), Allazia Blockton (13) and Deysha Smith-Jenkins (15). Photos: Whitefish Bay Girls Edge Out Port Washington

Blue Dukes beat the Pirates 41-34 in a double-header at Whitefish Bay Friday night.

The Whitefish Bay Blue Dukes girls basketball team edged out the Port Washington Pirates 41-34 in the first game of a varsity doubleheader at the Whitefish Bay Field House Friday night. Ava Stock scored 11 points and Maya Jonas 10 for Whitefish Bay, which is now 16-2 overall and 10-1 in the North Shore Conference. The Blue Dukes are tied for first in the league since Nicolet lost to Grafton on Friday. Port senior Caity Tydrick (17 points) and junior Mikayla Hilton (11 points) led scoring for the Pirates, whose record now drops to 4-13 overall and 2-9 in the conference.

Blue Dukes boys won 71-55 and girls won 44-23 in a varsity double-header in Port Washington Tuesday night.

Whitefish Bay swept Port Washington in a boys-girls varsity basketball doubleheader on Tuesday night at Port Washington. The boys won 71-55 as four players scored in double figures, led by Connor Weas with 16. In the first game, the girls remained unbeaten with a 44-23 win. Lyndsey Agnew scored 13 and Maya Jonas and Elisabeth Johnston added 11 each. The boys host Grafton on Jan. 6 and the girls host West Allis Hale on Tuesday.
