A single free throw was enough to give Milwaukee Washington a win over Whitefish Bay boys in a close regional finals game in Sherman Park Saturday night.
After leading Milwaukee Washington all game, the Whitefish Bay Blue Dukes started to see its sectional hopes in jeopardy when the Purgolders tied up the game halfway through the fourth quarter. A tense Whitefish Bay fan section watched as Washington stole a ball in backcourt and electrified their home crowd with a dunk. Down by one point, the Blue Dukes tied the game with a free throw with 24 seconds remaining on the clock. The Purgolders then drew a foul with three seconds remaining. The resulting free throw shot put an end to the Blue Dukes' 17-7 season. The Whitefish Bay boys basketball team easily handled their first post-season game of the season, toppling Milwaukee Morse-Marshall/Juneau in a 78-40 win at home Friday night. With the win, the Blue Dukes will advance to the next level of regionals against Milwaukee Washington at Washington High School at 6 p.m. Saturday. Whitefish Bay is seeded third in their Division 2 Sectional. Washington, which beat Milwaukee's Bradley Tech 69-63 at home Friday night, is seeded second in the sectional. The winner of Saturday night's matchup will advance to sectionals.

Whitefish Bay boys beat out Cedarburg with a 60-48 win in front of a hometown crowd Friday night. With the win over their North Shore Conference foes, the Blue Dukes' record improves to 2-1 in the conference and 4-2 overall. The Blue Dukes' top scorers were Kelin Johnson (13), Joe Sherburne (11) and Jake Casey (10). The boys' next game is on the road against Milwaukee Lutheran Tuesday night. They return to the Field House Friday night to play Port Washington.

Blue Dukes boys won 71-55 and girls won 44-23 in a varsity double-header in Port Washington Tuesday night.
Whitefish Bay swept Port Washington in a boys-girls varsity basketball doubleheader on Tuesday night at Port Washington. The boys won 71-55 as four players scored in double figures, led by Connor Weas with 16. In the first game, the girls remained unbeaten with a 44-23 win. Lyndsey Agnew scored 13 and Maya Jonas and Elisabeth Johnston added 11 each. The boys host Grafton on Jan. 6 and the girls host West Allis Hale on Tuesday.
