Man Cited for Shooting Birds, Squirrels in Back Yard
To preserve his expensive bird feed, a resident on Day Avenue has been shooting unwanted squirrels and birds with a pellet gun from the back window of his house.
The sight of dead, bullet-stricken birds and squirrels has become too much to bear for some residents on the far west end of the village. A resident called police at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 20 to report a neighbor on Day Avenue near Lydell Avenue has been shooting squirrels and birds. Police responded to the house to talk to the 73-year-old man, who said he had shot multiple birds and squirrels with a .177 caliber pellet gun from an open window in his house. The man told police he recently invested in a nice bird feeding area, and to preserve his expensive bird feed, he has been shooting and killing unwanted birds and squirrels that try to eat the food.
