The incoming Whitefish Bay restaurant will serve a variety of entrees, sandwiches, salads, pizza and burgers.

The Bay, Whitefish Bay's newest restaurant, will open in the former El Guapo's space later this month, according to Carol Deptolla's dining blog on Tap Milwaukee. The restaurant coming to 342 E. The restaurant will serve beer and cocktails, and the owners even hope to have a rickshaw available for customers that are not able to drive, according to Deptolla. The Bay is co-owned by Whitefish Bay resident Paul Berlin and Paul McMahon, who both held executive positions at a company that owned Sabor and several Buffalo Wild Wings franchises. Silver Screen Is Still Golden

The Fox Bay Cinema Grill mixes the old with something new.

For more than 30 years, films shown at Fox Bay Cinema Grill have been projected by one man, 68-year-old Don Holt. Holt, who started as a film projectionist in California during the 1960's, has been projecting films at the theater since 1972, his first film being the French Connection. “Back then we only had one booth, two projectors and only one theater,” Holt said when showing the old projectors that sit in the lobby. “The two projectors were used to switch between the multiple reels for just one film then.” The business underwent a $750,000 renovation in 1991, which included a new bar and kitchen, the theater room split into three, and a switch from film to all digital projectors. Now instead of multiple reels for a film, a movie can be …

Starbucks Plans to Expand Outdoor Seating

The coffee shop will add an additional table and six patio chairs to an expanded patio just north of the existing patio on the west side of the building.

Do you like to sip lattes while taking in the scenes of Santa Monica and Silver Spring? With a new outdoor seating plan, Starbucks hopes to expand its popular outdoor patio by adding 104 square feet of patio space north of its existing 220-square-foot patio on the west side of the building.  The coffee shop at 302 E. Silver Spring Dr. received the Plan Commission's permission Tuesday night to create the expanded patio, which would accomodate an additional table, umbrella and six patio chairs. Starbucks' current patio features two tables and 17 chairs. This is the second modification in recent history for the Whitefish Bay Starbucks store. It does seem like a minor change given that it's only one table. For what it's worth, it will be a bit of a change in aesthetics as well, since the evergreens just north of the Santa Monica entrance will be taken down to make way for 100 square feet of paved patio space. They will plant new shrubbery along the perimeter of the new patio as well.   more ›

Hounds Around Town Moves East on Silver Spring

Whitefish Bay's favorite pet store has moved across the street to the space formerly occupied by Gallery 505.

Over the past 5 1/2 years, dogs around Whitefish Bay have been psychologically trained to pant heavily, bark excitedly and drag their owner into Hounds Around Town on Silver Spring Drive. Now that the pet supply store has moved to a new storefront at 505 E. Silver Spring Drive, store owner Lisa Peterson has placed a bowl of dog treats at the front door with the hopes that local dogs — and their owners — will follow them to their new location. "Dogs are more than welcome to come in, and the treats are handed out freely," Peterson said. Peterson said she decided to move from 330 E. Silver Spring Dr. to 505 E. Silver Spring Dr. due to lower rent and the increased visibility from being across the street from Sendik's. The current location was …
