Cahill Ice Rink Brings Community Together

After two years without a Whitefish Bay ice rink, local kids are flocking to Cahill Park to ice skate and play hockey with their friends.

If the sight of 20 kids playing hockey in the park isn't the scene of a Norman Rockwell painting, it should have been. That sight is now commonplace in Cahill Park, where on Thursday night, kids ages six through 13 slapped the puck around, while others enjoyed a more leisurely skate on the 100-by-200-foot ice rink. When the cold becomes too much to bear, families can take a break in the heated Cahill Pavilion. Organized by Deb Dryden and Lori Rojas, more than a dozen volunteers have spent the last week flooding the park area just south of the warming house to create an ice rink for others in the neighborhood. The volunteers worked more than 10 hours to make the ice rink: three two-hour shifts on Monday, one two-hour shift on Tuesday and …

NObama 2012

11:05 am on Saturday, January 26, 2013

The one and only reason that Cahill Park was not flooded by the DPW for ice skating in Barack Hussein Obama. Barack Hussein Obama hates babies- he considers them punishment. “If {my daughters} make mistakes, I don’t want them punished with a baby.” Obama hates America! His Pastor hated America, his wife was never proud of America, and Obama hates America! Barack Hussein Obama sent 920.3 million …   more ›

Man Swims Into Lake Michigan to Avoid Police

Police say an interaction with the cops leads a 27-year-old man to give a false name, run into the lake and spit at one of the officers.

Police say a 27-year-old West Allis man led two local police officers on a foot chase into Lake Michigan on Labor Day morning. According to the police report, two officers noticed a man climbing the hill from the beach area into Klode Park around 5 a.m., which is before the park opens. The police believed he was coming from a home north of Klode Park, and trespassing on private property on their walk to the public beach. When police confronted the man about his business in the park, he told them he was at a party in the area, and he wanted to walk along the beach and meditate.  Police asked the man for his name, the report says, but he gave them a fake name and birth date. The officers told the man they could not let him go until they …

Roughly 90 Volunteers Help Weed Klode for the 4th of July

Community organizations rallied around the effort to beautify Klode Park in a natural way before the big Fourth of July celebration coming up Wednesday.

Pulling weeds is not the most exciting way to spend a Saturday morning, but for about 90 Whitefish Bay residents, the Klode Park Weed Out event was time and energy well spent. Whitefish Bay Garden Club President Nancy Sturino organized the event, calling on organizations from across the village – everyone from scouts to schools to the Whitefish Bay Civic Foundation – to help beautify the park in a natural way before the big Fourth of July celebration coming up Wednesday. Sturino said the effort shows the community will step up to the plate to eliminate weeds in public parks without the use of pesticides. "People are excited about the experiment to keep pesticides out of Klode, so they were willing to take a Saturday morning and help out," …

That's probably useful to add to the story, actually. For those that haven't visited Klode in a while, the grass is quite dry, so tearing out the weeds on the lawn likely would have left patches of dirt.   more ›

Community Groups Gearing Up For Klode Park Weed Out

The Whitefish Bay Garden Club is seeking teams of volunteers to keep Klode Park weed-free and pesticide-free in advance of the Fourth of July festival.

The Whitefish Bay Garden Club wants to keep Klode Park free of pesticides and weeds for the Fourth of July festival coming up in less than two weeks. The village has not sprayed pesticides at Klode this year. To keep the park beautiful using natural methods, the group is now soliciting volunteers to pull weeds at the park from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. June 30. To sign up, visit this website to join a group or sign up as an individual. "This is a great way to meet a few new friends, teach your children or grandchildren about "ownership" and "stewardship" of our public spaces, and help strengthen our greens space management so we can all enjoy fields and parks that are beautiful, healthy, and safe," said Jennifer Riggs, one of the event …
