Kathy Rogers Takes Over as School Board President

In her one-year post, she will be in charge of setting the board agenda and running the meetings.

Kathy Rogers ran her first Whitefish Bay School Board meeting Wednesday night, as she transitioned from a School Board member to the School Board President. Rogers was appointed to a one-year term as board president at an organizational committee meeting April 27. The previous board president, Marie Greco, served two terms as president. As board president, Rogers will work with Supt. Mary Gavigan to set School Board agendas, and she will preside over the meetings. Rogers, who has been on the board for two years, will finish her first three-year term in office next year. She is a substitute teacher in Shorewood schools and was formerly a substitute teacher in Whitefish Bay schools before serving on the board. She has lived in Whitefish Bay …

We are fortunate to have Kathy Rogers on the school board. She has worked elsewhere as a teacher and an administrator, and is a parent with a child in the district schools. Her perspective and knowledge is our gain. Best of luck to her and the whole school board as they steer our district through these tough economic times.   more ›

Greco, Phillips Win Re-election to School Board

Village Board votes, with four write-in hopefuls vying for two seats, will be counted Wednesday.

Whitefish Bay School Board members Marie Greco and Jim Phillips will keep their seats after surviving a close challenge from attorney Anne Berleman Kearney. Greco and Phillips have both served on the board for six years, and with Tuesday’s election, were elected to a third three-year term. Greco, the board president, received 39 percent of the votes, Phillips received 32 percent and Kearney 29 percent. Greco is co-owner and vice president of Lexicom Corporate Services. Phillips is a shareholder with the law firm of Godfrey & Kahn, S.C. Kearney is a principal with Appellate Consulting Group and practices civil litigation. School Board Election a Choice of Experience vs. Change

Greco, Phillips say knowledge of district finances will be a vital resource in lean times, but Kearney said she will bring a fresh perspective to the board.

The Whitefish Bay School District has some important decisions ahead in the next three years, and the three candidates for School Board have different opinions on whether the board would benefit from experience or a new voice. Whitefish Bay voters will make that choice in Tuesday's election, as attorney Anne Berleman Kearney, a political newcomer, is challenging six-year incumbents Marie Greco and Jim Phillips in a three-way race for two board seats. Terms are three years long. Kearney previously interviewed for a post on the school board in 2009, when Joe Martinelli resigned after serving one year of a three-year term. The board instead appointed Pam Woodard, who is running unopposed this year to serve the final year of that term. Kearney…

Newcomer, Two Incumbents Meet in Debate

Packed house listens to school board candidates share their views on state budget cuts and other district issues.

With the Whitefish Bay School District facing a more than $2 million cut in state aid revenue, it's no surprise the main focus of Monday night's school board candidate forum revolved around candidates' priorities in a tight fiscal environment. Three candidates are running for two three-year school board positions in the April 5 election. Attorney Anne Berleman Kearney is challenging incumbents Marie Greco and Jim Phillips. Incumbent board member Pam Woodard is running uncontested for a one-year position on the board. The forum, sponsored by Advocates for Education, drew a large crowd to the Whitefish Bay Public Library Monday night. CBS 58 news anchor Mike Strehlow moderated the debate. Kearney is a principal with Appellate Consulting …

Three School Board Incumbents Seek Re-election

No newcomers have taken out papers to appear on April ballot

Whitefish Bay School Board members Marie Greco, Jim Phillips and Pamela Woodard have all announced they will seek re-election to the board in the upcoming April election. Greco and Phillips were both elected in 2005, and Greco currently serves as Board President. The board appointed Woodard to fill the seat of Joe Martinelli, who resigned earlier this year. As a requirement under state law, Woodard is running to serve the remaining third year of Martinelli's unfinished term. In a news release, Greco said she looks forward to planning the future of the district with new Superintendent Mary Gavigan. "It's important that we continue to work on the issues that are vital to the parents and children of our community," said Greco. "We have a new …
