The board approved all of the proposed changes to the JCC's development agreement except its request to host up to 30 events past the traditional 11 p.m. closing time.
After months of discussion, Whitefish Bay village officials gave the Jewish Community Center permission to expand its hours, hold more special events and snowplow in the overnight hours. The Whitefish Bay Village Board on Monday night unanimously approved the organization's request to modify its development agreement with the village, which was reached in 2002 as a result of its expansion. The board's action comes on the heels of a joint public hearing before the Village Board and Plan Commission in March and the Plan Commission's approval in April. The board OK'ed all of the JCC's requests except its request to hold as many as 30 events per year that would run until 1 a.m., rather than the current closing time of 11 p.m. Instead, trustees…

The Plan Commission agreed to eight changes to the organization's development agreement and recommended the Village Board approve the JCC's request at its May 5 meeting.
Extended hours for the Jewish Community Center were approved Tuesday by the Plan Commission, leaving only the Village Board to bless the request. The expanded hours would be as follows: The Milwaukee Jewish Federation asked the village to amend the JCC’s development agreement to allow the extended hours. Also part of the request supported by the Plan Commission on Tuesday: Some neighboring residents on Devon Street and Bay Ridge Avenue have voiced concerns about increased night traffic, so Commissioner Mark Huber suggested an amendment to the petition requesting the JCC be flexible to re-route traffic to meet neighbors' concerns. Huber said the JCC seems receptive to those changes, as they have worked to meet residents' concerns so far. "I…

About 50 people showed up to Monday night's Village Board meeting prepared to speak or listen to the Village Board discuss the merits of a proposal to modify the Karl Jewish Community Center campus' development agreement, but those comments will not be heard by village officials until a public hearing on March 19. The Village Board voted to refer the issue to the village's Plan Commission, which will listen to public comments during a joint Village Board-Plan Commission meeting on March 19 at a location yet to be determined. Instead of taking public comments Monday night, Village President Julie Siegel said a joint hearing allows residents to offer comments at one meeting instead of two and allows both bodies to hear the same testimony. …
