In the Sectional 4 Final of the state tournament playoffs in Beaver Dam on Saturday afternoon, the number 3 seed, the University School Co-op girls hockey team, lost to the top-seeded Capital City Co-op of Sun Prairie 2-0. It was a long drawn-out afternoon because of an unfortunate injury and because of poor planning and Zamboni problems at the Beaver Dam Family Center. The game was a defensive battle, particularly in the first two periods during which the Cougars’ senior goalie Jenna Beilke-Skoug and USM’s sophomore goalkeeper Emily Wigdale prevented every shot on net from going past them. The USM girls hockey co-op beat Arrowhead 4-3 on Tuesday. Megan Bailey opened the scoring at 3:57 of the first period for the Wildcats. Arrowhead — ranked fifth in the state by the Wisconsin Girls Hockey Coaches Association — tied it on a power play in the second. The Wildcats took a 2-1 lead at the 8:18 mark of the second period on a breakaway goal by Sally James and extended the lead to 3-1 with a power play goal by Abby Berman, assisted by Margot Peterson and Mikaela Simon.
