USM Girls Hockey Team Loses to Number One Seed

With 0-0 at the third, it was a very close game.

In the Sectional 4 Final of the state tournament playoffs in Beaver Dam on Saturday afternoon, the number 3 seed, the University School Co-op girls hockey team, lost to the top-seeded Capital City Co-op of Sun Prairie 2-0. It was a long drawn-out afternoon because of an unfortunate injury and because of poor planning and Zamboni problems at the Beaver Dam Family Center. The game was a defensive battle, particularly in the first two periods during which the Cougars’ senior goalie Jenna Beilke-Skoug and USM’s sophomore goalkeeper Emily Wigdale prevented every shot on net from going past them.  The defenders in front of them kept the shooters to the outside and cleared rebounds quickly. Girls Hockey Team Scored Early and Often

The USM co-op girls hockey team kept the heat on Arrowhead, winning 4-3.

The USM girls hockey co-op beat Arrowhead 4-3 on Tuesday.  Megan Bailey opened the scoring at 3:57 of the first period for the Wildcats. Arrowhead — ranked fifth in the state by the Wisconsin Girls Hockey Coaches Association — tied it on a power play in the second. The Wildcats took a 2-1 lead at the 8:18 mark of the second period on a breakaway goal by Sally James and extended the lead to 3-1 with a power play goal by Abby Berman, assisted by Margot Peterson and Mikaela Simon.   Arrowhead scored a late second period goal to cut the lead to 3-2.  At the 13:04 mark of the 3rd, Berman scored to give the Wildcast a 4-2 lead.  Arrowhead scored the final goal with 35 seconds remaining.
