Silver Spring recently lost Anytime Fitness, Simon Oliver and Les Moise, but gained ATI Physical Therapy and two new spa businesses.
Six months after hoisting the sign to recruit customers, Anytime Fitness franchise owner John Mathie said he no longer plans to open a fitness franchise on Silver Spring Drive. "We just weren't seeing the demand, unfortunately," he said. Whitefish Bay has several fitness facilities, including the Jewish Community Center and Fitness Together. Anytime's nearest location is at 4009 N. Oakland Ave., Shorewood. Mathie bought the property at 109 E. Silver Spring, which used to house Elements East, and 103 E. Silver Spring, the home of the new Great Clips, late last year with the intention of opening in April. When Mathie purchased the building, Elements East was forced out of its rental agreement after 10 years in the village and will now open …

With 10 years of history in Bay, the Asian decor retailer will be replaced by Anytime Fitness.
After 10 years in Whitefish Bay, the co-owner of Elements East announced the Asian imports retailer will move to a new four-story development being constructed on North Oakland Avenue. Elements East started looking for a new location after Anytime Fitness purchased the building at 109 E. Silver Spring Dr. Elements East, which specializes in art, furniture and other accessories from Asia, will stay in its current location through the end of the year. "This has been a great place to be," Elements East owner Alicia Urban said of Silver Spring Drive. "We love the community we’re in, the support we get from the neighbors and the other people that come to shop in Whitefish Bay. It's been a great 10 years, even through the tough times of road …

Fitness center is considering the purchase of the building currently occupied by Elements East.
The Whitefish Bay Village Board Monday granted Anytime Fitness an exception to operate outside of the village's standard retail hours, meaning the fitness franchise will move forward with the purchase of the current Elements East building at 109 E. Silver Spring Dr. Under the Whitefish Bay zoning code, the club would only be able to operate from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., which franchise owner John Mathie said would not be acceptable. The Village Board agreed in a 6-1 vote to allow the business to operate from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m every day, which came on a recommendation from the Plan Commission. In addition to the Shorewood branch at Oakland Avenue and Capitol Drive, Anytime Fitness also has franchises on Farwell Avenue in Milwaukee and in Wauwatosa …

Twenty-four hour fitness club will need special permission from Village Board to operate outside of village's regular business hours.
Anytime Fitness is considering buying the current Elements East space, but first the local franchise owner needs assurance that he will be able to operate at the expanded hours on which the 24-hour fitness club has built its business. True to his franchise's name, John Mathie said Anytime Fitness is typically open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Anytime Fitness has franchises in Shorewood at Oakland Avenue and Capitol Drive, on Farwell Avenue in Milwaukee and in Wauwatosa and Germantown. The club reduced its hours to open in Shorewood, which has a similar zoning code as Whitefish Bay. The Shorewood location is open to members 5 a.m. to 1 a.m every day. Under the Whitefish Bay zoning code, the club would only be able to …

Rob if we need a bar, we need three of them. Preferably within walking distance of each other, each operated by someone who has never been in the bar business and with just enough regular clientele between the 3 of them to assure 2 of them fail within 2 years of opening. It's the WFB way.   more ›
