More than 600 runners came out to support Whitefish Bay schools in the annual 5k run/walk event.

More than 600 people came out to Whitefish Bay High School Saturday morning for the sixth annual Run the Bay, a 5k run/walk organized by the Whitefish Bay Public Education Foundation to raise money for the schools.  Participants ran individually, with familes and strollers, and in groups. A team of school district employees ran together in support of Middle School Associate Principal Chuck Orvold's battle against cancer. David Salmon, a Shorewood High School cross country alumnus training for the Lakefront Marathon, won the race (and a $25 Performance Runnning Outfitters gift card) with a time of ‎16:55.08. Pro Baseball Pick 'Em Contest Winner Announced

Patch user "mp" guessed that the teams would combined for 33 runs, two fewer than the actual total of 35.

Editor's note: Due to an oversight, the winner of this contest was incorrectly announced on Monday. We sincerely regret the error. It shouldn’t be surprising that most entrants in Patch’s Pro Baseball Pick ‘Em Contest did not give the batters enough credit in making their selections. Milwaukee outscored Chicago 18-17 in the three-game series over the weekend, and few participants counted on 35 total runs from the teams battling for last place in the division. By guessing the teams would score 33 runs (Brewers 19, Cubs 14), Patch user "mp" was chosen to win the $100 gift card good for pro baseball apparel. Thanks to everyone who participated. Enjoy the rest of the baseball season!

Water Tower Park Renamed in Honor of Craig Counsell

The park is also getting a makeover with new open-air dugouts, which will be built as part of an Eagle Scout project.

The Little League field that retired Milwaukee Brewer Craig Counsell played on as a kid will be named after the hometown hero. Water Tower Park, the home field for Whitefish Bay Little League located on the north end of Lydell Avenue, was renamed Craig Counsell Park Monday night through a resolution unanimously passed by the Village Board. The suggestion was made by a resident, who wished to remain anonymous. Counsell grew up in Whitefish Bay, playing Little League in Water Tower Park and for the Whitefish Bay Blue Dukes at Cahill Square Park, where his old number 19 is hung on the fence by home plate. After a 15-year major league career, including two World Series victories, Counsell retired in 2011 as the fourth-oldest player in the …

I think maybe we should name it Alan Deakin Park, in honor of someone who is actually doing more for the park. Way to go Boy Scouts!   more ›

Have You Seen This? Whitefish Bay on YouTube

The kids are hanging out at Bayshore for a variety of reasons. And don't miss sports highlight videos from two of the community's bright young stars.

In these days of cell phone cameras and user-friendly editing software, everybody's a producer. Or can be. And YouTube is the medium of choice for millions of people, including some right here in Whitefish Bay. Whitefish Bay High School students have used YouTube the last several years to make tongue-in-cheek promotional videos for the high school. They might not pass for the typical promotional videos you see for educational institutions, but it definitely shows the kids have a sense of humor. User TheKleinStudios uploaded this year's video. User maggieanderson16 uploaded a video of a flash mob conducted in the main lobby at Bayshore Mall. The Best Buddies group performed the mob in support of a campaign against the use of word "retarded…

Jaekels Leads Lakeshore Lacrosse to 12-2 Victory over Wauwatosa

Sophomore scores four goals and seniors Anders Bjella nets five in easy victory for co-op team with players from Shorewood, Nicolet, Whitefish Bay and Port Washington.

Sophomore attack John Jaekels had something to prove in Lakeshore's 12 – 2 win over Wauwautosa on Monday in high school boys lacrosse. Coming off a one-game hiatus for aggressive play against Marquette, Jaekels quickly let his teammates know that he came to play. Lakeshore scored the first three goals before Wauwatosa got on the board. Jaekels contributed to the 6–1 halftime score by putting in two goals off assists from middies Quinten Ziegler and Anders Bjella. His third goal came shortly after the half from a charge behind the net and double clutch fake.  His fourth goal of the night was a shifty dodge between two defenders that required an off-balance shot while falling that left his teammates buzzing on the sidelines.   “Did you see …
