Facts have shown that people who use coupons from Printapons website for their shopping activities use coupons online. Although the "leading source" of paper coupons are still those that are found in newspaper inserts, online is a source that is not lagging behind.   more ›

Letter to the Editor: Who Are These Pesticide People and What Do They Want?

Whitefish Bay resident Anne O'Connor explains why she opposes the use of pesticides and encourages people to research the scientific effect of pesticides.

(Editor's note: Resident Anne O'Connor submitted this letter to the editor regarding a recent story about pesticide application at Cahill Park.) Since I have been educating myself over the past year on the use of pesticides in public spaces – and let me be clear, I formerly used them myself at my own home– I have been formulating an opinion based on the evidence available, and as of late, am making that opinion be known. Let me also be clear on this - I am not advocating that the village take any stance on the personal use of pesticides. Nor am I advocating that all of village green spaces be allowed to revert back to prairie. Typically, I am not comfortable with loudly and clearly expressing an opinion – it’s much easier and nicer to not …

Has anyone measured what the health risks are for 1x/year v. 4x/year application of traditional herbicides? Can 'heavily used' sports fields stand-up if they are mostly all weeds v turf-grass? What is the timeline for reduction of risks due to contact exposure to the applied herbicide on the grass?   more ›

Did More Than 100,000 Republicans Cross Over to Vote in Democratic Primary?

A closer look at the numbers in Tuesday recall primary indicates that many Republicans cast ballots in Democratic race for governor. If that's true, GOP turnout was much larger than it appears.

There were 614,511 ballots cast in the Republican primary for governor in 2010. That was a contested race between then Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker and former Congressman Mark Neumann. Walker, running nearly unopposed in Tuesday’s recall, received 626,538 votes. That’s nearly a 2 percent increase in Republican voters from 2010, despite just token opposition for Walker, and does not include crossover votes of Republicans voting in the Democratic primary (most likely for Kathleen Falk). To put the Republican turnout in perspective, Walker’s 626,538 vote total was equal to 91.4% of the total votes cast for all of the Democratic candidates and the Democratic protest candidate running as a Republican. In 2010, Milwaukee Mayor Tom …

I love it!!! In 2010 there were 614,511 total ballots cast in the Republican primary for governor. That was a contested race between then Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker and former Congressman Mark Neumann. Walker, running unopposed in Tuesday’s recall, received 626,538 votes. This was more than Barrett and Falk's vote totals combined. The silent majority will rise up to win once again!   more ›

Top 10 Drugstore Deals with Printable Coupon Links; Freebies Galore

Sara Conrad from SarandipitySaves.com shows you that being cheap can be oh-so chic with fortuitous frugal discoveries.

There's some spiffy savings happening in the drugstore world this week so I thought I'd kill two....errr....budget birds with one column. ;) Let's start over at Walgreens.... Walgreens makes saving is pretty easy with their Register Rewards program. Each week there are oodles of deals which produce Register Rewards, or RR for short. They will print with your receipt at the checkout and can be used on future purchases like cash.  There are a couple caveats though. You can not use an RR to purchase an item from the same brand as what the RR originally developed from. When you use the RR just make sure you do not use it to buy other items from said company.  Also, if you're using manufacturer 'pons make sure you do not have more items in your…

I don't shop at Target. As a small business owner, I try to support other small, family-owned businesses as much as possible. Know what I discovered? More often than not, when dealing with a small, local business --- even those you find on the internet --- they'll give you a discount on almost anything if you ask for it. I almost always call before ordering anything online, and unless there are …   more ›

After GSA Scandal, Congress Moves to Reduce Wasteful Spending

The Digital Accountability and Transparency Act will strengthen and standardize the government’s reporting standards, and puts all the information online for the American public to see.

When it was revealed that the General Services Administration (GSA) spent $823,000 on a conference in Las Vegas in October 2010, Americans were appalled at the blatant disregard for taxpayer dollars. I take very seriously my role as trustee of taxpayer funds, and the GSA’s conference was an egregious display of wasteful government spending. GSA employees not only spent a lavish amount on the government dime, but also made videos poking fun at the cost and extravagance.  The responsibility lies with head of the GSA, as well as the president. The White House should be setting a tone of fiscal responsibility throughout all federal agencies that discourages squandering taxpayer dollars. In the meantime, Congress is acting. The House passed, …

20 Awesome Pick 'n Save Double Daze Deals with Printable Coupon Links!

Sara Conrad from SarandipitySaves.com shows you that being cheap can be oh-so chic with fortuitous frugal discoveries.

Pick 'n Save has been throwing me some cheapskate curveballs recently. First they messed with their sale schedule making my head spin...thank goodness we're back on track. Then, for whatever wacky reason, I haven't been receiving a flier in the mail for the past month or so. This is crummy on two levels...one being I've missed out on those snazzy coupon booklets and most importantly, flipping through Pick 'n Save's website to match up deals is a pain in the pants. But I have to put on my happy face and recognize we're still lucky duckies to have a store so close by that lets us indulge in Double Daze on Wednesdays AND Saturdays! That means, you can double up to 5 coupons in each transaction (if you need to double more, just split your …
