Wow! Year in and year out Whitefish Bay High School continues to impress. Congrats to all forRead More their accomplishments - I am proud to be part of this community. I think this list of schools that kids matriculated to is as impressive as any as I've seen in any public/private school.

Even the homeless in the USA have Obama phones. They need to learn how to spread capitalism, notRead More more welfare. Without capitalism welfare in these countries will be corrupted with no long term solution.

While I applaud these kids for helping, I woud rather give a donation to something more constructiveRead More than sitting in a box or, say, someone who participates in a fun run, bike or walk for a cause. How about asking for money for each yard you mow for a senior citizen, each quilt you sew or each homecooked meal you bring to a shelter or some other act that has actual value?

The students slept in the boxes to get a feel of what unfortunately others are forced to do. I knowRead More my daughter really learned so such (sleeping in the boxes was just part of what they learned and did) and really cares and wants to help these children. Please check out the link (http://www.voiceofthechildren.net/index.html). All students at MJDS are taught that it is their job to help repair the world "Tikkun Olam". They do many good things for others from their heart and soul.

We can only hope this move improves CESA #1 nearly as much as it's going to improve the WhitefishRead More Bay School District.

And if WFB School District is smart this time around, they'll think twice before offering their nextRead More superintendent the exorbitant salary received by Gavigan for running a four school district.

Once again, teachers get put on a pedestal. Is anyone foolish enough to think that teachers are theRead More only professionals who aren't getting paid commensurate with their educational degrees these days? Join the club with millions of others. And since when does paying teachers more equate to "putting more emphasis on educating kids?" One would hope that teachers enthusiastically do just that, regardless of their salaries. And heaven forbid that the school district would use those excess funds to give already-burdened, tax-paying parents a reprieve from, say, one year of paying all the ridiculously high "technology fees" and other costs associated with the start of each school year. It's ludicrous that every September, parents have to buy everything from sanitary wipes to boxes of Kleenex because the district "can't afford" to furnish supplies. Seriously? What's next? Rolls of toilet paper?

Jeff, Were teacher benefits cut? I thought they are now paying a small share of the usual cost butRead More didn't think the benefit package changed appreciably. Also, FTA, "...In agreement with the teachers union". What does the union have to do with this? Is our school board pulling a Marina Dimitrijevic stunt on us?

It's just amateur newswriting that doesn't say what it means to say, clearly and accurately. AndRead More what the hell is a "pike hike," and an "artificially lowered salary"?! The lead of the story indicates the pro-teacher/union bias from the get-go. Instead of just objectively laying out the facts—that the district decided to use unused funds to pay for a small increase in teachers' salaries—the story instead begins by presenting a pity party for the underpaid teachers, with a slam against Act 10 for good measure. Boy, this gets old.

Correct--the intelligent kids are better at taking tests than the other, less intelligent kids...
CowDung April 30, 2013 at 12:34 pm
Thanks for the clarification, Jeff.

my kid gets great test scores and average grades...nothing can mes with raw talent
Bob McBride April 26, 2013 at 01:11 am
That would fit the story line he's been following so far.

Interesting Dung that you keep comparing private schools to public schools. I believe we can allRead More agree that it costs more to educate kids with special needs, from physical to mental to social needs. I don't think private schools are willing to accept ALL students. That's why they can do it more cheaply. The kid who needs a full time aide to accompany him or her to all classes costs A LOT to educate. That cost is spread across all students raising the average cost per pupil on each kid. The child that is in the wheel chair requires an elevator and ramps. Private schools do not put them in for the child who shows up wanting to pay "regular" tuition. Public schools must take him or her.....

Which of you is able to disagree without having to be rude and/or belittle the person with whom youRead More disagree? If you are able to disagree in a more respectful manner, please do so. It would be a great way to encourage the younger generation to become more respectful. And, I think many readers would have greater respect for your opinions. At I hope so.

Congratulations to all the participants. This is a fabulous opportunity for students, and greatRead More success. Those most adept truly gain the power to move others with their words. I have been moved many times by HS forensics competitors. Keep up the great work and good luck in Alabama!

No, unfortunately I don't have any video footage. The information and photos were included inRead More Principal Henkle's weekly parent newsletter, and I asked to share it on Patch. I'll try to make it out next year for some video, though!
Bob McBride April 10, 2013 at 02:55 pm
Thanks Jeff. Sometimes that stuff ends up on Youtube, so I'll look around there.

Shorewood has done stuff like this in individual classes and will have more things like this in theRead More future, it's in the works:)
