Christ Church Members Help Feed the Hungry

Parishioners meet six times per year to prepare bags of food for the less fortunate.

members as young as 4 years old gathered at the church Saturday to pack meals for the hungry and homeless.

The Rev. Seth Dietrich said church volunteers meet six times per year to assemble the lunch bags, which included a sandwich, juice, applesauce and a cookie. Church members also included a pair of socks in the bags.

The group packed 160 bags Saturday morning, then distributed the bags to The Gathering, a faith-based nonprofit organization that provides provides ten free meals each week at three sites to more than 100,000 of Milwaukee's hungry and homeless annually. The lunch bags assembled at Christ Church Saturday morning were delivered to the meal site for the organization's Saturday lunch program.

In addition to assembling the bags, Dietrich said volunteers also spent some time talking about homelessness and the conditions that lead to homelessness.Β  The effort also brought in volunteers from outside the church, he said.

"We want to open ourselves up to the community and invite people into all of the things we have going on here," he said.
