Photos: Whitefish Bay Comes Together For Ice Cream in the Park

On the first night of summer, the Whitefish Bay Civic Foundation served up 405 pounds of ice cream and a night of community fun Wednesday night.

Maybe it was the blazing heat, or perhaps the pent-up excitement of the first day of summer. Or maybe it was just the promise of free ice cream.

Whatever the reason, a huge crowd of Whitefish Bay residents came to Wednesday night for the Whitefish Bay Civic Foundation's Ice Cream Social. Volunteers served up ice cream, while the crowd of families enjoyed the sounds of the Whitefish Bay Community Band and the sight of kids dancing along.

When all was said and done, the Civic Foundation went through 90 gallons (405 pounds!) of ice cream. The demand for vanilla ice cream outpaced chocolate by a two-to-one margin, partially due to root beer floats. The Civic Foundation also went through 11 gallons of root beer and 16 cans of whipped cream.
