ICC Bicycling Race Canceled in Whitefish Bay

The Whitefish Bay Classic – and the rest of the 17-day tour – has been canceled due to lack of sponsorship.

The Whitefish Bay Classic bicycle race will not be held this year, due to lack of sponsorship.

The Whitefish Bay Classic bicycle race is always the final leg of the 17-day International Cycling Classic. The lack of sponsorship this year means none of the 17 cities in the circuit will have a bike race this year.

At 44 years old, ICC Superweek is the longest-running multi-day cycling competition in the country. The International Cycling Classic tour brings in riders locally, as well as from about 20 different countries.

Although there was no title sponsor for the series, Andy Garrison, the director of operations for the bike race, said he had at least hoped to find a sponsor for the Whitefish Bay race, which costs nearly $50,000 to produce. Bravo Cucina Italiana had a history of sponsoring the Whitefish Bay race, but that ended with the closure of the Bayshore restaurant last month

Garrison said he is optimistic about finding a title sponsor and organizing the bike race next year.
