Swimmers Shine at Wisconsin Senior Olympics

Four Whitefish Bay residents won events and qualified for the National Senior Games in Cleveland next summer.

Four Whitefish Bay residents that train with the Whitefish Bay 5 a.m. Masters swimming group dominated at the Wisconsin Senior Olympics held at Shorewood High School on Saturday.

The top 3 swimmers in each event qualified for the Senior Olympic National Championships, held next year July 21-Aug. 1 in Cleveland. The Senior Olympics have been contested in Wisconsin for over 30 years.

Dan Kristl finished second in both the 50 fly and 50 breast while winning the 100 individual medley in a Wisconsin Senior Olympic State record in the 50-54 age group.

Dave Drury also competing in the 50-54 age group won the 100, 200 and 500 freestyle. Both the 100 and 200 times were records.

Karen Kimple was also a star in the 50-54 age group. Karen won the 200 and 500 freestyle as well as the 50 and 100 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley. All Karen’s times were new records.

Dave Clark (the WFB Masters coach) in the 55-59 age group won the 200 and 500 freestyle, the 200 backstroke, the 100 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley, all in record times.
