Rugby Players Headed to Rocky Mountain Challenge

Twelve athletes from Nicolet and Whitefish Bay participate in major USA Rugby event

Six rugby players from state champion Nicolet and five from Whitefish Bay have been chosen to represent Wisconsin teams in the Rocky Mountain Challenge tournament June 17-20 in Aurora, CO.

The event in sanctioned by USA Rugby and features U17 and U19 teams from around the nation.

Local players on the U19 squad are Dez Fowler, Bernard Stutts and Reggie Dillingham of Nicolet and Jeff Cebe and Taylor Young of Whitefish Bay. Also on the U19 team is Mike Christenson of UW-Milwaukee, a former Nicolet player.

On the U17 squad are Hunter Crass, Mike Noonan, Keondre Walton-Cooper and Delton Clay of Nicolet, along with Dan Pettay and Will Shanley of Whitefish Bay.

The Rocky Mountain Challenge is one of five regional tournaments supported by USA Rugby and is part of the selection process for international team play in 2011. The event will feature more than 40 matches, with preliminary rounds on June 18 and the semifinals and championship games played on June 19. A banquet, honoring all players, will be held Saturday evening featuring a national speaker.
