Lakeshore Lacrosse Team Ends Season With 13-4 Record

The Ripsharks' season came to a close Saturday with a 9-3 loss to a first-seeded Arrowhead team.

The Lakeshore Ripshark's 13-4 season came to a close Saturday following a 9-3 loss to #1 seeded Arrowhead High School.

With their season on the line, seniors Andrew Reidy and Benji Wichman led Lakeshore's top-ranked defense, and held Arrowhead scoreless in the first quarter.

The second quarter was a similar defensive battle. Arrowhead struck first making it a 1-0 game. However, Lakeshore midfielder Max Woody quickly struck back for the Ripsharks tying the game at 1-1. Despite an incredible effort by Lakeshore goalie Quinn Mooney (12 saves), Arrowhead added another goal and took a 2-1 lead into halftime.

The Ripsharks' leading scorer, senior co-captain Anders Bjella was out of the game for a broken collar bone, and fellow senior Alex McMurtry was out with a broken foot.

Their absence was felt in the second half as Lakeshore struggled to maintain possession and score against a stout Arrowhead defense. At the end of the third quarter the score was 6-1.

The Ripsharks, led by co-captain Andrew Reidy, one of the state's top defenseman, did everything they could to stop their powerhouse opponents. However, Lakeshore's offense failed to produce on the other end of the field until junior midfielder, Dakota Kwasny, ripped the ball into the back of the net resulting in a 9-3 final.

Despite a series of injuries that left Lakeshore in a questionable position, the team made it to the sectional Final, which is the farthest playoff run in team history.Β  The Ripsharks have their sights set on the state title next year, and plan to come back stronger after making the necessary improvements in the offseason.

The game also marked the last high school game for Lakeshore seniors Andrew Reidy, Benji Wichman, Danny Wilson, Jack Miller, Alex McMurtry, Dante Giaccobossi and Anders Bjella.
