Two Whitefish Bay qualifiers who did not compete were the husband-and-wife team of Chris and Kate Markgraf, according to the Boston Marathon website. Because of Monday’s high heat in Boston, race organizers did give runners the opportunity to defer their qualification status to 2013, according to the Washington Post. It’s not clear if the Markgrafs accepted that offer. Kate Markgraf is a former member of the U.S. women’s soccer team who played in 201 matches and was both a World Cup and Olympic champion.
