Cyclists Will Hit the Streets of Bay Sunday

Bicyclists from across the globe will compete in the 44th annual International Cycling Classic, which is celebrating its 22nd anniversary in Whitefish Bay this year.

Bicyclists from all over the world will hit the streets of Whitefish Bay Sunday for the Whitefish Bay Classic, the final stretch of the ICC Superweek bicycle race.

The 17-day International Cycling Classic competition has visited various communities in Wisconsin and Illinois and will end with Sunday's bike race in Whitefish Bay, where riders will have the opportunity to win jerseys, trophies and cash prizes in their race category.

This will be the 44th anniversary of the Point Premium Root Beer International Cycling Classic, and its 22nd year in Whitefish Bay.

Races start at 11:30 a.m., with the grand finale, the Pro 1/2, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Pro 1/2 draws riders from Germany, South Africa and other countries across the globe.

The races start and finish on Silver Spring Drive and Shoreland Avenue, then continues eastward on a one-mile course through Santa Monica Boulevard, Beaumont Avenue, Consaul Place, Lake View Avenue and Bay Ridge Avenue.

The North Shore Lions will be selling food and beer one block west of the finish line on Kent Avenue.

You can stand inches away from the racers along the barriers near the announcer's stage and the Start/Finish line or bring a few lawn chairs or a picnic blanket and find a comfortable spot along the course.
