Cal Ehrke, Leslie Fuda Earn Sportsman, Sportswoman of the Year Honors

Both players helped their respective basketball teams earn a trip to state finals.

Cal Ehrke was a state champion in basketball in March, while Leslie Fuda came up just short. But the recent Whitefish Bay graduates were equals in earning Duke Pride Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year awards this year.

The awards are presented to a graduating senior by the Duke Pride athletic booster club. First consideration is given to athletes who participate in multiple sports and have earned state and conference honors. Secondary consideration is given to attitude, leadership and adherence to the school's athletic code. A committee comprised of the athletic director, associate principal, a guidance counselor and team coaches select the winners, who receive a $500 scholarship from Duke Pride.

Ehrke was a member of the football and basketball teams at Whitefish Bay. He won four letters in football and helped the boys basketball team to the this winter.

Fuda earned 11 letters in golf, basketball and softball. She was on the Blue Dukes girls basketball team that earned a trip to Madison but in the semifinals.
