Blue Dukes End Season With First-Round Playoff Loss

The Blue Dukes finished with a 15-16 record overall, and an 8-10 record in the North Shore Conference.

The large crowd at felt ups and downs as the Blue Dukes battled Slinger in the WIAA summer baseball regional semifinal Tuesday night, but at the game's end the Whitefish Bay season came to a close with a 4-2 loss.

Coach Jay Wojcinski said those ups and downs are indicative of the Blue Dukes' season overall.Β 

"Inconsistency was the story of our season. Some games we played well, and other nights like tonight we didn't play well," he said. "We just never knew which team was going to show up."

The Blue Dukes finished with a 15-16 record overall, and an 8-10 record in the North Shore Conference. The Blue Dukes, , had some bright spots this season, including victories over Franklin, , and Nicolet.

More recently, Bay lost 8-0 to conference champs Germantown on July 3, and then on Friday, lost 5-4 to a non-conference Shorewood team. The team ended its regular season with a 19-9 win over Port Washington.

In Tuesday night's game against Slinger, the teams were tied 1-1 until Slinger pulled ahead with 3-1 lead. Bay came back with a run in the bottom of the sixth, but then in the top of the seventh, Slinger scored another run to put the score at 4-2.

Although the season ended early in the playoff, the Blue Dukes do have some good news in having two seniors, Justin Alt and James Stecker, named to the North Shore All-Conference team.
