Bay Girls Topple State's No. 1 Team

Two early goal send Blue Dukes to 2-1 victory over Homestead.

Facing the state's No. 1 team was not going to bother the Whitefish Bay girls soccer team.

They'd already split two games with top Illinois programs St. Charles North and Belleville Althoff Catholic, losing the latter game as part of the Tournament of Champions in Burlington, IA. They followed that tournament with consecutive games against powerhouses Grafton, Brookfield Central and Divine Savior Holy Angels, going 1-1-1.

Hosting top-ranked Homestead on Tuesday in a North Shore Conference game, the No. 10 Dukes scored two early goals then held on for a 2-1 victory.

Talia Dacquisto and Lindsey Agnew scored in the first 17 minutes for Whitefish Bay. Keeper Sarah Platzer fended off most of the Highlanders' advances after that, save for one score by Olivia Tehan in the 30th minute.

Things get no easier for the Blue Dukes. They visit No. 2 Waukesha West on Thursday, and still have Cedarburg, Brookfield East and Germantown on the remaining schedule.
