Bay Girls Red Hot Entering Regional Finals

The Blue Dukes continue their hot streak as they steamroll over St. Antida, 55-15.

Even after completely dominating their opponent Friday, Whitefish Bay girls head coach Greg Capper said the Blue Dukes aren't satisfied.

The Whitefish Bay (18-5, 11-3) girls basketball team ousted the St. Joan Antida Jaguars (4-17, 0-15) 55-15, at Whitefish Bay, in Division II WIAA playoff action, to advance to the regional finals.

“One of the things we always work on in practice and games is what standards have we set for ourselves, on offense and defense, and can we live up to those standards,” Capper said.

The game started out in the Blue Dukes' favor as a technical foul was called on the Jaguars when the team submitted a line-up with an incorrect jersey number. The foul awarded Whitefish Bay two free throws and the ball.

After the Blue Dukes jumped out to a early 10-2 lead, St. Joan Antida called a timeout with 5:08 remaining in the opening quarter to try and slow things down, but to no avail.

Leading the charge for the Blue Dukes was freshman forward Maya Jonas who netted 11, and right behind her, senior guard Leslie Fuda, who dropped 10 points.

St. Joan Antida junior guard Roxanne Davila made a couple nice moves en route to scoring eight points and sophomore forward Diana Dillard had to fight a little bit more down low to get her seven.

Coach Capper used every bench player, as 13 girls getting some playing time and 10 of them recording at least one point, meanwhile, Antida had just eight players on the bench, all of whom played, but just two of them managed to score the ball.

Whitefish Bay came into this game red hot, having won seven of their last eight games, sporting a 9-2 record at home and were rested as they had earned a first round playoff bye.

The Blue Dukes will meet the Brown Deer Falcons (13-10, 11-7) in the next round Sat, as they knocked off Shorewood tonight. However, Brown Deer's guard play may cause problems for the Dukes, Capper said.

“They’re a very strong team at the guard position and they’ve got a big, tall girl who’s not bad either," Capper said.

The Blue Dukes won the only non-conference game they played against the Falcons, 41-33 at Brown Deer.

The game is set for a 1 p.m. tip, Saturday, at Whitefish Bay High School.
