Wrestling Team Fourth at Invite, Has Eyes on Bigger Things

Jack Ludke was an individual winner at last Saturday's invitational, and the team was the overall invite champion the previous weekend.

Jack Ludke was the champion at 126 pounds for the Whitefish Bay wrestling team at Saturday’s Tom Burns Memorial Invitational at Marquette High School.

The Blue Dukes finished fourth of 10 teams with 117 points, a week after winning the 17-team Nicolet Scramble.

According to results at trackwrestling.com, Ludke won four of his five matches and was the only individual winner. The Blue Dukes didn’t have entries in every weight class in the tournament.

Also placing for Whitefish Bay were Cooper Fergus (106 pounds, second place), Ben Lehrmann (160 pounds, second place) and Miguel Gomez (132 pounds, third place).

WhitefishBayNOW reported that the Blue Dukes have hopes for their best season in a long time, with three state qualifiers — Rashadeem Gray, Max Carlin and Joey Davey — back among a large group of veterans. Dale Lobel has helped resurrect the program from almost nothing just a few years ago.

The Blue Dukes have a varsity dual match at Milwaukee Lutheran on Thursday and then participate in a varsity invitational at West Allis Central on Friday and Saturday.
