WIAA Playoffs: Bay vs. Waunakee at Wisconsin Lutheran College, 2 p.m. Saturday

The Blue Dukes stand between the Warriors and a state record-tying 48-game winning streak. Not to mention the trip to state that is on the line for both teams.

Whitefish Bay’s football team is charged with making history on multiple levels in its first trip to the WIAA semifinals.

The Blue Dukes (10-1) take on Waunakee (11-0) at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wisconsin Lutheran College in Wauwatosa. The game was originally scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at Kettle Moraine High School, but the change was finalized Monday afternoon.

Tickets are $4. Any broadcast information was not available Monday afternoon.

For Whitefish Bay, a trip to the Division 2 championship game at Camp Randall in Madison is at stake, and that of course has never been done here. But the Blue Dukes also have the chance to derail Waunakee’s stampede into the record books.

The Warriors have not only won the last three state titles, they have won 47 games in a row. The next win would match Manitowoc (1983-87) for the longest streak in state history.

It’s hard to put Waunakee’s dominance into perspective, but the average score of the three state title games has been 42-9.  Last year the Warriors beat Waterford — the team who eliminated Whitefish Bay in Level 3 — 45-0.

Whitefish Bay reached the semifinals by rallying to defeat previously unbeaten Brookfield East 24-14 Friday. Waunakee smashed Watertown 55-27 after taking a 28-0 lead in the first half.
