Whitefish Bay Senior Named a Presidential Scholar Semi-Finalist

Whitefish Bay High School senior Emma Fallone is one of about 550 American students being considered for the final round of the U.S. Presidential Scholars program.

, Fallone was one of about 40 Wisconsin high school students and more than 3,000 students across the country to be nominated for the 2012 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.

Now, she has been named one of about 550 semi-finalists vying for 141 finalist positions. In May, the Commission on Presidential Scholars will select up to 121 academic scholars and up to 20 arts scholars as the final award recipients. They will select one young man and one young woman from each state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and U.S. students living abroad; 15 students at-large; and up to 20 students from the creative and performing arts.

Scholars are selected on the basis of superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement in community and school activities.

In addition to her high academic achievements, Fallone ran varsity cross country all four years and was one of the captains of the teamΒ in the fall. She is also one of the editors of the high school literary magazine, "Out of the Blue" and participates in the varsity math team.

Fallone has been accepted at Yale University in New Haven, CN where she plans to study history.
