School District Names New Director of Teaching

Germantown School District's director of teaching and learning services is expected to take a similar position with the Whitefish Bay School District.

The Whitefish Bay School Board is expected to hire Maria Kucharski, who served as the director of teaching and learning services at Germantown last school year. She previously served as an elementary school principal in the Germantown and Kettle Moraine school districts, an instructional resource teacher in the Elmbrook School District, and a teacher in the Mukwonago School District and Milwaukee Public Schools. 

While serving as an elementary principal, Kucharski also held K–12 oversight responsibilities for gifted and talented services and a comprehensive summer school program.

The Whitefish Bay School Board will act on Kucharski’s contract on July 10, and her employment is effective July 15. She will succeed Laura Myrah, the current director of curriculum and instruction. Myrah will assume the role of interim superintendent on July 1.

Kucharski received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in curriculum development from the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. Additionally, she has earned the prestigious honor of National Board Certification.

Kucharski was identified as the top candidate from a pool of over 30 applicants for the position. During reference calls, colleagues of Ms. Kucharski remarked she is bright, hardworking, energetic, and displays dedicated passion for children and learning.
