Richards Students Selling Baked Goods, Paper Crane Kits to Aid Hurricane Relief Efforts

Bake sale/origami kit sale will be held in the school's Great Room after school Monday.

Richards School Student Council will sponsor a bake sale and origami paper crane kit sale in the new Great Room after school Monday, with the proceeds going to the American Red Cross' earthquake and tsunami relief efforts.

Why the paper crane? Β In Japanese culture, the crane is known as "the bird of happiness." It is a symbol of good fortune and longevity. Today, it is believed that making a 1,000 cranes brings healing and hope during challenging times.

Students have set a goal to make 1,000 paper cranes in recognition of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
