Nearly $30K Raised in Whitefish Bay Relay for Life Event

Whitefish Bay High School students raised nearly $30,000 for American Cancer Society through its Relay for Life event last week.

Setting out to raise $16,500, the Whitefish Bay High School Student Council beat its goal by bringing in $27,675 with the overnight community fundraising walk, which started at 7 p.m. Friday and lasted through 7 a.m. Saturday.

Teams of students camped out overnight at the high school and took turns walking around the track. At least one team member walked at all times during the event.

The event celebrated those who have battled and beaten cancer, remembered loved ones that lost their lives to cancer, and raised funds for cancer research and treatment.

The student council also sold candle-lit bags, which were set up around the track and personalized with a name, photo, message or drawing in memory or honor of a friend or loved one who has been affected by cancer.
