Got Milk? Whitefish Bay Schools Say 'Yes,' Despite Dairy Closing

Whitefish Bay students will continue to receive milk this week, despite the abrupt closing of a Waukesha milk processing plant.

Some were worried about the ability of school districts to obtain milk for students when employees of Golden Guernsey started reporting the factory had abruptly shut down over the weekend.

Whitefish Bay schools will not be affected by the plant shutdown because they receive milk from Dean's.

Officials at several other school districts in the Milwaukee area say they don't envision problems with having milk for their students. Some school districts, like Waukesha, Greenfield and Elmbrook, had to make some changes to ensure their students would continue to receive milk this week. 

Other school districts are not so lucky. A Slinger School District official told Today’s TMJ4 that schools there will run out of milk by Wednesday.

It’s still unknown what the plant’s closing means in the long-term for Waukesha and area farmers. Waukesha Patch has left voicemails with OpenGate Capital – the investment firm that owns Golden Guernsey. The Department of Workforce Development has not been informed of the plant’s closing.
