Duke Pride Roundup: Soccer Team Captures League Title; Tournament Opens

Football team needs victory on Friday to advance to playoffs again.

Here is your weekly roundup of athletics and activities at Whitefish Bay High School, courtesy of Athletic Director John Gustavson:

BOYS SOCCER: Congratulations to the team on winning the conference championship by beating Nicolet last Tuesday night by a score of 2-0. The squad finished with a conference record of 6-1, one game better than Cedarburg and Germantown. The WIAA tournament starts on Tuesday night with a home game at 4:30 p.m. vs Milwaukee Pulaski. With a victory, the next game would be at home on Thursday night at 7 p.m. versus either Milwaukee Bradley Tech or Milwaukee South. As this is a WIAA event, no passes or IDs will be accepted for admission. Admission is $4.

GIRLS TENNIS: Congratulations to the team on their second-place finish at sectionals last Thursday. Lily Hayes won her No. 1 singles flight. Emily Deblitz, Asia Butler, Allison Gregg, Katherine Giesa, Emma Kortebein, Sasha Barkhouse, and Carly Theder all came in second and Jackie Comerford and Elena Ouimet took third in the No. 1 doubles flight. Qualifying for the individual state tournament this weekend in Madison were sophomore singles players Lily Hayes (fourth overall seed) and Asia Butler plus the doubles team of senior Jackie Comerford and junior Elena Ouimet.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL/GIRLS SWIMMING: Both squads will host their final regular season home events of the season on Tuesday night. The swimmers compete against Homestead starting at 6 p.m. while the volleyball team plays Nicolet starting at 6:30 p.m.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL: This Saturday the squad will host one of the best boys volleyball tournaments in the state starting at 8:30. The 15 visiting teams are: Brookfield East, Catholic Memorial, Fort Atkinson, Franklin, Homestead, Kettle Moraine, Middleton, New Berlin, Nicolet, Pius , Racine Horlick, Shorewood, Wauwatosa East, Wauwatosa West, and Westosha Central.

CROSS COUNTRY: The teams will run at the conference meet this Saturday at Tendick Park in Saukville. The girls will run at 11:10 a.m. while the boys will run at 11:45. This is a great event to watch, especially if the weather cooperates. Please plan on arriving a little early to secure parking.

FOOTBALL: The final regular season football game of the year will be this Friday at home starting at 7 p.m. versus Nicolet. With a victory, the team will qualify for the WIAA playoffs for the fifth straight season.

DUKE PRIDE OPPORTUNITIES: Duke Pride is once again hosting a fundraiser through California Pizza Kitchen. The event is this Wednesday. Additionally, winter sports are just around the corner!!
