Write-In Candidate Leaves MMSD, Forms New Company

Lauri Rollings announces she has left her job as an attorney for MMSD to start her own communications firm.

Lauri Rollings, one of three write-in candidates vying for two open village trustee seats, has resigned from her position with the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District to form her own communications firm.

In a news release, Rollings said she made the decision to form Lauri Rollings Communications, LLC because she has a desire to return to the communications field after 10 years of practicing law.

, Rollings said her work representing MMSD may present a conflict of interest in some situations, but she would recuse herself from discussions involving those matters. She also said her technical and legal knowledge of sewer systems would be a benefit to the Village Board, and she said the village should conduct a thorough technical analysis of the cause of the village's flooding problems before moving forward with a solution.

Rollings described her new venture as "a small, woman-owned business ... devoted to helping clients communicate complex or technical concepts to their audiences through concise written and spoken words."

“My goal is to help businesses reach current and potential customers through plainspoken, substantive communications,” she stated in the release.

Drawing on her background in journalism and law, Rollings said her core focus will be legal and technical writing.  Over time, Rollings hopes to expand the business into other areas of commercial writing and communication.

“I have experience in writing about topics of all kinds because of my background as a journalist, but I think I can add value in other fields, based on my legal background and my work with MMSD,” she said in an interview.

Rollings is asking fellow residents to elect her as Village Trustee in the April 5 election by writing her name in on the ballot.

The candidates are running to replace two seats left vacant by Trustee Thomas Fehring, who will not seek another term, and Julie Siegel, who is running unopposed for the village president seat held by Kathleen Pritchard. Pritchard will not seek another term after nine years of service.

The top two write-in candidates in the April 5 election each will win a trustee seat, assuming they are legally qualified. A special election would be held in the event of a tie.

Rollings said more information will soon be available at www.laurirollings.com.
