Residents Will Be Assessed For Road Repairs

Most affected homeowners will be charged between $250 and $450.

Whitefish Bay homeowners living on 25 selected blocks will have to pay for a portion of the road construction work performed on their block next month.

The Whitefish Bay Village Board on Monday approved a $350,000 contract for the street work. Thirty percent of those costs would be passed on to homeowners through a special assessment.

Assessments are based on the lineal feet of road frontage on your lot. Residents with 40 feet of street frontage will pay around $280, and those with 60 feet of street frontage will pay about $420.

The project will start in early September and will be wrapped up in three to four weeks.

Portions of the following streets will be affected: Devon Street, Shoreland Avenue, Lydell Avenue, Belle Avenue, Day Avenue, Lexington Boulevard, Diversey Boulevard, Idlewild Avenue, Hollywood Avenue, Elkhart Avenue and Lancaster Avenue (See map attached to this story).

The street work, which involves grinding off 2 inches of the top layer of old asphalt and putting new asphalt on the roads, is expected to improve road drainage and reduce the potential for flooding, village officials say.

In addition, some of those streets haven't been repaved in 35 years or more, and patching them up just isn't working any more, officials say.
