Sandy Pasch Will Run for Assembly Seat Representing Shorewood, Milwaukee

The two-term representative currently lives in Whitefish Bay, but says she would move if she wins election to the new post formed by the legislature's redistricting plan.

The tilts the political makeup of the 22nd Assembly District from purple to red, leading incumbent to announce Monday she will run for the new 10th Assembly District representing Shorewood and part of Milwaukee.

After two terms serving North Shore communities in the state Assembly, Pasch said if she wins the election she would move to Milwaukee or Shorewood. That 10th District seat is held by Milwaukee Democratic Rep. Elizabeth Coggs, who is believed to be running for state Senate. Kristopher Rowe, the organizer of the , has  his intentions to run for that Assembly seat.

Pasch said she talked with Rowe about the seat a while ago, but she wanted to wait to see if the redistricting plan would withstand legal challenges. She said Coggs' decision to run for Senate also motivated her to run. Patch has not verified with Coggs that she plans to run for Senate.

Calling the redistricting plan "unconstitutional, secretive, and highly partisan," Pasch said it would have been impossible for her to remain in the 22nd District, which now stretches into Republican-heavy Waukesha and Washington counties. Her current district includes Shorewood, Whitefish Bay, Fox Point and River Hills. Whitefish Bay, Fox Point, and Bayside are now included in Assembly District 23, which is currently represented by Republican Rep. Jim Ott.

"The Republicans’ redistricting plan is one of the most revolting instances of a session full of partisan power grabs and extreme overreaches," she said. "They severely fractured communities of interest in the Milwaukee area and redrew my current district a great distance from the Milwaukee communities I have had the honor to represent.”

A Milwaukee native and a graduate of Milwaukee Public Schools, Pasch said she has worked on Milwaukee issues since she was elected in 2008. In her first term, she authored and co-sponsored bills relating to infant mortality and access to health care and mental health services. In the last session, she worked on creating transitional jobs, Medicare access and a bill removing the civil statute of limitations in sex assault and rape cases involving children.

She said she will be a strong voice for Milwaukee, a voice she said she has demonstrated in her role as the Assistant Assembly Democratic Leader and chair of the Milwaukee Democratic Legislative Caucus.

"I know Milwaukee and Shorewood very well," she said. "I've been working on Milwaukee issues, such as health care access, decreasing incarceration rates, strengthening education and creating family-sustaining jobs."

Wait - Kristopher Rowe, the organizer of the effort to recall Alberta Darling (and lost), has also announced his intentions to run for that coveted Assembly seat. Ms. Pasch has talked with Mr. Rowe about the same seat. She stayed on the sidelines hoping for possible feckless legal challenges? And now she will compete with Mr. Rowe for the opportunity to represent the 10th District?

Being in Sandys current district, I can say that she has the characteristics I like in an elected official. She seeks consent, is fact based, understands the Health care problems, and lastly I can Trust her. I may not agree with her positions at times, but there are few humans I respect as much. I hope that nice guys don't finish last!

Those qualities are lost on a few on this string. They like their politicians nice and amoral http://tinyurl.com/72nvms9.

And once again, Pasch emerges from relative obscurity when she smells blood in the water. Is anyone honestly surprised by this?
Given her relative silence of late, Hoffa wasn't even aware that she still lived in Wisconsin, let alone the 10th District. Oh wait, what's that - she doesn't actually live in the 10th District? Well, details never did matter much to Democrats, did they?
James R Hoffa April 17, 2012 at 02:16 am

You don't have a clue what true solidarity is, so Hoffa suggests discontinuing the use of that word until you get a clue!

@Lyle -
You should toss your hat into this race - you'd make a much more formidable candidate than Pasch, and you're actually from the District!
James R Hoffa April 17, 2012 at 02:27 am
Great to see that Schmitz is still the beacon of sunshine we've always known him to be!
@Keith - Less than two months until Walker wipes the floor with the Dems yet again and Hoffa will be collecting $50 from you! I hope you're thinking about where you'd like to meet up to present Hoffa with his winnings ;-)

Im sure Nurse Sandy will be blazing a trail to new digs in Shorewood. Property values on Berkeley just rose. Im sure she'll have the full support of the WFB Pasch.....errrr I mean Patch!

Hoffa should pay attention to her emails and postings on
WisPolitics, where she posts routinely. But Hoffa would rather cry and say she has been silent. ........... I certainly do not need to take orders from you and your little Hoffa sidekick.

Please do me a favor Jimmy. Don't cry in front of me when people though Walker's amoral butt out of office. Worse than Nixon -- tinyurl.com/72nvms9.
Bob, I'll say something so you can say something. You are so thin skinned you must be saving money on X-Rays.

Unlike a lot of clueless white people who routinely, gladly and proudly vote against their shelf interest; blacks know how to discern between one can date from another.

Thanks for making my point.

Keith, until you pay back the money stole from Shorewood, keep it down.
The Donny Show April 17, 2012 at 02:21 pm
If she were really committed to the district, she would move BEFORE she enters the race. Why wait to see if she has to move?
Mark Liccione April 17, 2012 at 03:17 pm
She is like all the other carpetbaggers that feel they are "entitled" to their throne in Madison. She wants to take the path of least resistance to regain her position of telling another community of whats good for them. I'm sure the citizens of the central city will embrace her and her superiority complex.
Jeff Rumage (Editor) April 17, 2012 at 03:36 pm
I would like to clarify for those claiming "carpetbagger." Whitefish Bay, where Sandy Pasch lives, is now part of Assembly District 23 (Rep. Jim Ott), and her current Assembly District 22 is way out in Menomonee Falls/Town of Erin.
So, really, she either has the choice of moving to Menomonee Falls to stay in the 22nd, stay in WFB and run in a different district or move to Shorewood/Milwaukee and represent the 10th.
James R Hoffa April 17, 2012 at 04:43 pm
To summarize Bob's point -
Looks like a carpetbagger, smells like a carpetbagger, sounds like a carpetbagger = must be a carpetbagger!
James R Hoffa April 17, 2012 at 04:49 pm
@Keith -
While your comparison of Walker to Nixon is in deed flattering, as I truly LOVED Nixon, I'm not quite sure that linking to a propagandist presentation is going to get you anywhere with this crowd. Don't you have some original material to offer us? Oh, that's right, I forgot that you guys on the left are totally into the whole lemming mentality. I guess that this is just your own special way of participating in a 'human megaphone,' isn't it?
Mark Liccione April 17, 2012 at 05:54 pm
Jeff i know you didnt have the benefit of a Marquette degree(yea Bucky!) but when one lives in one district and runs in a different district than the one they currently live in...its called Carpetbagging. Didn't Fowler teach you that at Madison?
Jeff Rumage (Editor) April 17, 2012 at 06:45 pm
Hey Mark, I wasn't really trying to argue the 'carpetbagger' point, but as I was reviewing the district map, I thought it would be interesting to point out that she would actually be a carpetbagger if she wanted to stay in the 22nd Assembly District. All in the interest of creating a robust discussion of course...
I love Fowler! He was a guest lecturer in one of my philosophy classes. He took on the persona of Nietzsche for an entire 1 1/2 hour class period and took on people that tried to question his idea of "the overman."

What's the deal with nearly all wearing orange? And what the heck are those orange noodle looking things that they're all holding. Was the orange apparel and noodles all made in the USA by union labor? Wanna bet that a majority probably either rode or drove in non-union built vehicles to this event? Not to mention that many probably still use Verizon cellular phone services and shop at WalMart on a regular basis. Solidarity my BUTT! Try again!
Keith Best April 17, 2012 at 10:14 pm
Pasch never even conceded to Alberta Darling. Alberta has more class in her pinky finger than the sore loser Pasch has total.
Keith Best April 17, 2012 at 10:17 pm
If I'm not mistaken, I believe Pasch did not do as well as expected in her hometown of Whitefish Bay. She's a loser.
Mark Liccione April 17, 2012 at 10:56 pm
He's quite the purist. Should have taught at MU, but $$$$ too good at Madison. Plus state employees pension package....like gold!
Keith Schmitz April 18, 2012 at 02:24 am
Using your logic Bob, no matter how contorted that is, then F Jim shouldn't be representing the 5th since he as probably lived all of five minutes here over the passt 25 years. People do this stuff all the time. It's up to the voters to decide if they like the idea of being represented by Sandy or not.
You will grant that privilege, won't you, since you feel so keen on yourself?
Tom Barrett April 18, 2012 at 10:06 am
Seems he's in favor of a "one can date.".
Must be the economy.

Hey Schmitzy-- once again you are speaking about something you absolutley know nothing about. (typical liberal)
Jim Sensenbrenner lives in the Falls and comes home every weekend. The amount of townhalls that he holds in his district are legendary.
