Ballot Errors Create Another Headache for Poll Workers

Election ballot machines were unable to read the first round of faulty ballots, so poll workers will have to transfer all of the information on those ballots to other ballots that can be processed through the machines.

As if workers don't , along comes the case of the misprinted ballots.

Testing done in advance of the April 3 General Election has discovered a flaw in the election ballots sent to the City of Milwaukee and 18 other municipalities in Milwaukee County, including Whitefish Bay.

Ballots received from printer Burton & Mayer, Inc., were tested in the communities and failed to work in the optical readers. According to WISN 12, nearly 450,000 printed ballots are flawed and need to be reprinted. The county was able to get in touch with another contractor regarding a ballot reorder over the weekend.

Because of the delay in receiving the corrected ballots, village employees decided to have all absentee voters vote on paper ballots. These ballots will then go to the polls on Election Day, and poll workers will transfer the votes to a paper ballot that will be able to be counted through the machine.

Treasurer Judy Cichy said the village is in the process of evaluating whether additional poll workers should be hired to help with the additional work.
