Damage estimated at $35,000 in early morning house fire in Glendale.

A woman was slightly injured and two family pets were killed in an early morning house fire in Glendale Sunday that caused about $35,000 in damage.

The fire broke out in the first-floor living room of the home at 427 W. Bender Road around 5 a.m., the North Shore Fire Department said. A woman in the house was able to get out immediately, however, a dog and a bird were killed in the fire, the department said. She was treated for minor injuries at the scene by paramedics.

NSFD crews were able to quickly locate and bring the fire under control. Fire damage was confined to the first floor of the home, but smoke damage was extensive throughout the residence, the department said.

The home did not have working smoke detectors, and the cause of the fire remains unknown as of late Sunday.
