Woman Charged With 7th OWI After Driving on Sidewalk: Police

A Whitefish Bay woman is facing multiple charges after incident after police say she drove drunk on a sidewalk on Henry Clay Street.

A 32-year-old Whitefish Bay woman is facing felony charges for her seventh drunken driving offense after police say she drove her SUV on the sidewalk on East Henry Clay Street.

She was arrested around 2:30 a.m. Friday when a Whitefish Bay police sergeant saw her driving a GMC Jimmy erratically, including on the sidewalk in the 1100 block of Henry Clay, police said. She was taken into custody and had a blood-alcohol level of 0.13, above the legal limit of 0.08.

Whitefish Bay police did not name the driver, but court records identified her as Katherine A. Roughen. She was charged Saturday with felony counts of operating while intoxicated and operating with prohibited alcohol concentration, and misdemeanor driving with a revoked license. If convicted, she could face up to 10 years in prison and/or $50,000 in fines on the felony charges alone.

As of Tuesday evening, Roughen was being held in Milwaukee County Jail and due court Aug. 6 for a preliminary hearing.

Roughen has six previous drunken driving convictions, including in 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2010 in Fond du Lac County.
