Seven Garage Break-ins Reported Last Week

Whitefish Bay Police are investigating a string of seven garage break-ins in the last week.

A Garmin GPS device and $10 in cash were stolen from two unlocked vehicles parked in a garage in the 5200 block of North Berkeley Boulevard sometime between 10 p.m. April 6 and 8 a.m. April 7. The suspect entered through an unlocked service door and left behind a red baseball cap.

In the same time period, an unknown suspect entered a detached garage in the 5200 block of North Santa Monica Boulevard through an unlocked service door and rummaged through two unlocked vehicles, taking $20 in cash.

Also that night, an unknown suspect entered a detached garage in the 300 block of East Lexington Boulevard through an unlocked service door. The person rummaged through two vehicles, stealing $3 in cash. The residents also believe the intruder attempted to take their snow blower but was unable to do so because a vehicle was in the way.

The fourth garage theft that night was in the 5300 block of North Santa Monica Boulevard, where an unknown suspect gained entrance through an unlocked service door. The intruder stole about $5 in cash and a small sample of perfume from a vehicle in the garage.

The remaining two garage thefts are believed to have happened earlier in the week.

A set of Taylor Made golf clubs was reported stolen last week in the 4800 block of North Cumberland Avenue. The resident reported the clubs and bag cost roughly $1,875, with another $258 in miscellaneous items also stolen. The resident believes the theft occurred between March 31 and April 5.

Nearly $1,200 in belongings were stolen from a garage in the 4600 block of North Newhall sometime between 7:45 p.m. April 4 and 8 a.m. April 5. Among the stolen items are a Trek 700 bicycle, a Canon Powershot digital camera, DVD, iPod, beer, wine and wine glasses. The resident said the intruder gained entrance through an unlocked service door.

Just a couple blocks away, in the 4800 block of Newhall, a bottle of water and $10 in change were taken from an unlocked garage. The theft is believed to have occurred sometime between Thursday and Saturday.

Whitefish Bay Police Chief Robert Jacobs said police are investigating the thefts, but the best precaution to prevent thefts is for residents to lock their garages and a keep a watchful eye.

β€œWhen you see anything suspicious in your neighborhood, call the police department immediately,” he said.
