Police Report: Smash-and-Grab; Bicycle Thefts

The latest reports from the Whitefish Bay Police Department.

Police are looking for the person that smashed a car window and stole roughly $1,200 in property Sunday around noon.

The thief smashed the side window before stealing a $500 Coach tote bag containing two iPod Touch devices, keys, makeup, a cell phone and $100 in cash from a vehicle in the restaurant parking lot between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday.

Shorewood police saw a similar vehicle break-ins Sunday night, as someone broke into a secured parking structure in the 3900 block of North Oakland Avenue and smashed the windows of two vehicles but did not steal any property.

Another car window was smashed earlier in the week on May 2 in Whitefish Bay. Despite the damage, nothing was stolen from the sports utility vehicle, which was parked on the 300 block of East Carlisle Avenue.

  • Numerous drug paraphernalia items were taken from a vehicle parked in the parking lot during a planned narcotics search conducted by Whitefish Bay, Brown Deer police and the Brown Deer K-9 unit. The K-9 unit alerted officers about the potential for drugs in 11 vehicles, but after searching all of the vehicles, illegal materials were only found in one vehicle. A citation is pending against the male high school senior that owns the vehicle.
  • A resident on the 100 block of East Chateau Place said she saw a man riding her son’s bicycle on North Lydell Avenue at West Chateau Place. She discovered the bicycle was stolen from her garage and confronted the man at Hampton road and Mohawk Drive. The man then swore at her, became aggressive and rode the bike west on Hampton Avenue from North Port Washington Road.
  • A 16-year-old Milwaukee boy was arrested for stealing a 11-year-old boy’s bicycle from inside the fenced yard of Thursday. The bike was recovered and released back to the boy. Officers had stopped the 16-year-old boy on the 5000 block of North Ardmore Avenue Thursday afternoon, and he was taken into custody for obstructing and trespassing after giving a fake name.
  • Three young people were found drinking in a car at at 1 a.m. Saturday.Β  Two 20-year-old Milwaukee men were arrested for underage drinking and violating park hours, and a 19-year-old Milwaukee girl was cited for violating park hours.
  • A hose and hose reel valued at $100 were reported stolen on the 1500 block of East Fairmount Avenue sometime between Wednesday morning and Thursday morning.
