Police Report: Drunk Driving, Ducks in Distress

The latest reports from the Whitefish Bay Police Department also include a stolen tree and a suspicious man looking through vehicles late at night.

A little bit of wildlife made its way to the Bayshore Town Center area Saturday morning.

Three police officers responded to the corner of Lydell Avenue and Day Street at 9:20 a.m. Saturday on report of a mother Mallard duck in distress over 10 chicks falling in a storm grate.

Police were able to remove seven of the 10 chicks with a net, but police officers and Wisconsin Humane Society workers were unable to locate the remaining three chicks in the next level of the sewer.

In other Whitefish Bay police news:

  • A tree and a concrete planter were stolen from a yard in the 4700 block of Woodburn Street sometime between 1 p.m. and 4:40 p.m. Friday. The tree is estimated to cost $50, and the planter is estimated to cost $250.
  • A 40-year-old Milwaukee man's blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit when he was pulled over at 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the 5500 block of N. Kent Avenue. In addition to drunken driving, he was also cited for speeding, operating with suspended registration and operating without proof of insurance.
  • A man wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt was reportedly looking through vehicles in the 4800 block of North Anita Avenue late Saturday night and early Sunday morning. A resident reported him to the police at 12:27 a.m. Sunday, but police were unable to locate the man.
