Police Report: Drive-By Squirt Gunning, Missing Artwork and a Stolen Bike

The latest reports from the Whitefish Bay Police Department.

A car full of young people was pulled over Saturday afternoon after police received a report of the car swerving at pedestrians as occupants squirted at them with a water gun on Lake Drive near Hampton Avenue. 

The driver, a 19-year-old Milwaukee man, was cited for reckless driving, not wearing a seatbelt, driving with defective brake lights, improperly attached license plates, not carrying his driver's license and operating without insurance and registration.

All of the other passengers, including a 17-year-old Milwaukee girl, a 15-year-old Milwaukee boy, a 17-year-old Milwaukee girl and a 16-year-old Milwaukee man, were also cited for not wearing seatbelts. A 20-year-old Milwaukee man was cited for disorderly conduct and not wearing his seatbelt.

In other Whitefish Bay police news:

  • A $200 bicycle was reported stolen from a shared garage in the 4800 block North Anita Avenue Tuesday afternoon. The bicycle, a boys 15-speed blue Harley Davidson, was taken sometime between 7:30 p.m. March 9 and 5 p.m. Tuesday. 

  • A 47-year-old Sussex man was cited for criminal trespassing in the 5300 block of North Lydell Avenue at 1:55 p.m. Saturday. The Sussex man previously had a relationship with the woman at the residence, and he was not invited to visit her home that she and her husband share, according to an incident report. The Whitefish Bay couple told the man to leave, and when the husband went to the kitchen to call 911, the man chased after him to take the phone out of his hand. The man was told not to go to the house again or have contact with the family.

  • A Whitefish Bay woman who forwarded a $30,000 painting on consignment to her art dealer friend suspects she might not get her painting back, according to an incident report. The art dealer, a Shorewood man, originally told her he had a customer interested in purchasing the piece, but she later found out that he had offered to sell his landlord the painting in lieu of rent. Earlier this month, a Shorewood police officer informed her that he had reported the painting as stolen. Whitefish Bay police have contacted Shorewood police, and she has contacted her attorney about the matter.
