Police Report: Dog, Drunk Man Both Have Trouble Finding Their Way Home

A dog is mistaken for a burglar after trying to enter its old home. Meanwhile, a Shorewood man has no connection to the apartment building he entered after a night of drinking.

It was 3:42 a.m. Monday when a resident in the 6000 block of North Bay Ridge Avenue called the police after hearing a noise at the door.

Responding to what was initially thought to be a home entry, Whitefish Bay police arrived and determined that a dog was "slamming into the rear patio door glass." The dog used to live at the house and was apparently trying to find its way in to its old home.

Police called the dog's owner to return to her former house and take the dog. She was also cited for dog at large.

In other Whitefish Bay police news:

  • A resident of an apartment building in the 4500 block of Oakland Avenue called the police to report a 26-year-old Shorewood man was intoxicated and did not belong in the building. All available squads responded to the scene, and the man told police he did not know anyone in the building and was unsure how he had gotten there. He agreed to leave the building and was transported to the hospital by North Shore Fire Department for evaluation due to his high level of intoxication and for a cut on his arm.
  • Police responded to the bus stop outside at 9:30 p.m. Saturday night, where a young man tore down the bus stop sign. He fled upon seeing a police squad, but was later located when he returned to the bus stop. He was taken into custody for criminal damage to property, resisting arrest, loitering, underage drinking and possession of a fake ID. Police took three men into custody: two 19-year-olds from Whitefish Bay and a 19-year-old from Niles, IL.
  • A resident in the 4800 block of North Oakland Avenue reported a Trek 7200 bicycle was stolen from her garage Thursday night between 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. The bicycle, which was unlocked, was white and silver in color and valued at $500. In its place, the suspect left an older bicycle.

No, at least two had clean records... did the "19-year-old" description lead you to connect them to the other event?
