At the scene, a small fire was beginning to spread from the ground to some pine trees in the yard. Firefighters extinguished the fire with a pump can and a hose from the house. There were several burnt logs behind the house that looked like they had been part of a fire pit, but NSFD did not determine the cause of the fire.

NSFD arrived on scene six minutes after they received the phone call and determined a passenger van had rear-ended another vehicle, which caused four more vehicles ahead to get hit from behind. The first two vehicles were leaking fluid, the van had to be towed and paramedics assisted one driver who had injuries.
