NSFD Receives More Than $2,000 for Pediatric Medical Equipment

Local women's clubs led the way in securing grant funding for North Shore Fire Department ambulances.

The North Shore Fire Department has been awarded a grant of $2,205 for pediatric medical equipment from the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Wisconsin and the Hospital Emergency Preparedness Program of the Wisconsin Division of Public Health.

Local clubs belonging to the GFWC Wisconsin are Brown Deer Woman’s Club, Brown Deer Junior Woman’s Club, North Shore Junior Woman’s Club and the Shorewood Woman’s Club.

The funds will be used to purchase vital pediatric emergency medical equipment for three ambulances operated by the fire department. NSFD received a grant that provided funding for its three other ambulances last year.

“This grant allows us to upgrade our current pediatric emergency medical equipment at a time when municipal budgets are tight,” said North Shore Fire Chief Robert Whitaker. “Pediatric patients need specific equipment; we can’t simply use adult sized equipment for pediatric patients. This grant gives our staff access to a vast array of the most current equipment on the market today.”

Last year over 30,000 children were so ill or injured that they required ambulance transport to the hospital. The goal of the GFWC Wisconsin is to equip all ambulances throughout the state.

“The North Shore Fire Department, on behalf of the seven communities we serve, would like to thank the General Federation of Women’s Club of Wisconsin for their leadership on this grant program throughout the State of Wisconsin and want to specifically recognize the Brown Deer Women’s Club for bringing this grant opportunity to the North Shore Fire Department,” Whitaker said.
